These guys are hitting a feeder every day all day long. This is the second year that they've wintered here, we've talked with other friends in the North Charleston / Hanahan area that have experienced the same thing.

For the more common birds we have a suet feeder, open tray feeder with Black oil Sunflower seeds, box style feeder with regular old wild bird mix and a tube style feeder with millet mix. We have a bunch of Bluebirds that get freeze dried Black Soldier fly larva and the Orioles feed on a 2 to 1 mixture of natural grape jelly mixed with Orange juice & water. When it's cold they will eat 10 oz a day of this jelly mixture. The Orioles will eat a little bit of the Soldier fly larva too. I just ordered another 10 lb bag of the FD Soldier fly larva. Here's a female Bluebird eating FD larva & a female Oriole on some jelly mix in half of a Hummingbird feeder. You can see the bottom edge of the wooden suet feeder along the top of the photo.  |
