I just found a baby tortoise in my back yard, 3 Inches long and very lite brown shell with jagged points on both side at the rear of the shell. I live in town, Dobson Rd and Warner. It was between two small planters. AZ-Game and Fish closed and no way to leave a message. I put him back to where I found him and it headed to my bags of potting soil underneath my patio. Where would this little guy come from? Added a word. |
| Well, the little guy took off from the last place I saw him, he was last seen under the patio by some bags of potting soil early this morning. Been looking for it throughout the day, hope he stays in the back yard. I don’t have any pets; my dog passed away last year and get a neighborhood cat once in a while. From information off the interweb it look’s to a be Sulcata tortoise less than a year old. Going to let nature take its course on this, hope he makes it. |
| Well, the little guy decided to come out of hiding this afternoon. I was spraying the area down around the bags of potting soil daily with water thinking he might be there somewhere among them. I did not spray any water today and he came out looking for some water. I got him in container with some water in it right up to bottom of his shell and he started to drink some. I read that they absorb water thru their skin and will also drink some, young one need daily water. I ended up giving it to the reptile store in Chander, I’m not set up to take care of a tortoise. The guy said that it was a Sulcata tortoise and was about 4-5 months old. I wish him well, where ever he ends up at. |
| This was the smart move. Friends found one years ago and the wife and kids HAD to have it. It grew and grew and grew. Tore up the backyard. Had to build multiple enclosures until it was just a giant. Now the kids are gone, the wife isn’t fond of Godzilla in the yard and trying to find a shelter for a giant is dang near impossible. He finally did but it took 5 guys to wrangle that monster into a pickup bed. |
