I’ve always heard the city is beautiful and IMTS is an event I’ve always wanted to attend…but at the same time, Chicago is one of the absolute last places in America I’d like to be without a gun. Is the area around McCormick place generally safe? |

The area around McCormick place is generally safe during the day. There is usually a police presence around there during conventions, especially that one. I was an air traffic controller at Meigs (CGX) from 93 until it closed for the first time in the fall of 96. IMTS was the biggest convention (closely followed by the Plastics convention) in Chicago. A lot of money in machine tools/tech. Generally, the convention area and downtown are good during the day. At night, stick to the hotel bar or use a taxi/uber/Lyft to get to and from any dining or other activities in the evening. Chicago is not as safe as it used to be, however, be careful and you will have a great time. Enjoy the food. |

That's Rosemont. Been to McC a lot, never had any issues besides traffic around the con center, but you'll have cops directing traffic. Park in the garage with skywalks, next to the hotel. |
