I wonder what your wait time has been? I renewed online at 4pm Aug 5th, so let's just call it Aug 6th because of the late time. I haven't gotten anything back. My last renewal was in October 2021, and as the issuance of CCLs began on Nov 1st 2011, I assume there will be a rush of renewals every 5 years when the original holders all expire. My expiration isn't until mid October, so I renewed early to beat the rush. My last renewal was astoundingly fast. I renewed at 7am on Monday (Columbus Day), and it was in my mailbox on Wednesday (still haven't figured out how they pulled that one off). But this time, instead of just 2 days, it's been 2 weeks.  On DOJ's website, there's a process of checking status of first time applicants, but nothing for renewals. |

I just read the statute and the renewal must be issued or denied in writing within 21 "days" of renewal. No where does it say "business days", and "days" is not defined as a business day in the definitions at the beginning. So I must assume it means calendar days. Tomorrow is my 21st calendar day. Crickets.

They averaged 5 days back then. I got mine in Oct 2021 in only 2 days. it was issued the exact same day I renewed it (Columbus Day at 7am), it was in my mailbox 2 days later. It could not possibly have been any faster than that. Now it's the complete opposite, it's the maximum time allowed by law. They must be slow-walking it intentionally, or laid off staff that handle it. |

Today was day #21, and it was in my mailbox today. Renewed online at 3:50pm, wednesday August 5th. Today is the 26th. So make sure you renew a month before your expiration date! fwiw ... date issued, 8/17 Postmark on envelope, 8/24. Seems to me they sat on it a week, and mailed it on day 19, so it would arrive on day 21.

It's also possible that date of issuance and date they actually print up the physical license itself may have a day or two lag.

So they sat on it for a week, and you received it on your 21st day if you renewed on the 8th. I renewed on the 5th, issued on the 17th, mailed on the 24th, received on the 26th... the 21st day. Exact same timeline. I'm detecting a pattern here. Licenses issued 12 days after renewal, mailed 7 days later, so delivery coincides with 21st day. |
| They certainly worked out a system to draw out the process as long as legally possible for whatever reason. At the end of the day, with a six month heads up for renewing, its isn't a huge deal but they could have warned us about the estimated turn around time in the same letter. |

I'm surprised they don't go back to your 5 year clock beginning on renewal date. At the first renewal, that's how it worked. My first license was issued on Dec 8th, so my first expiration date was Dec 8th also. When I renewed it 5 years later, I did so early, in October, to avoid another 6 week wait like 1st time. But it only took 5 days, and my new expiration date was now 5 years from issuance date in October (and still is). So on my 2nd renewal, I waited until the 21 day maximum before renewing, and got it in 2 days. But this time, it was good for 5 years from expiration date, not 5 years from renewal date. With this old system your 5 years kept getting shorter, so some people would wait until the last minute to renew, to avoid losing months off their 5 year license. Instead of being good for 5 years, you had 4 years & X amount of months if you renewed as soon as possible. |
