| I really don't want to have to drive another 9 hours there and back to pick it up. We were trying to get everything packed and head out early in the morning in a hurry. And I had my toddler distracting me. Forgot about the handgun I put in the closet. Cabin owner contacted me, told me they had my gun and brought it to their house. They are willing to help me get it back in whatever way possible as long as it's legal of course. Pretty sure the only way that could happen is if they brought it to an FFL, and then that FFL sent it to an FFL in my state. Do most gun stores do that or would they do that for a fee? |

I'd say most mom and pop type stores would do that for a modest fee. I'm three hours away from there so I can't really recommend a shop though. I remember traveling with kids. Don't miss it at all. Edit: OP in typical GD fashion they are kicking you like a dog in your other thread. If the bnb owners are gun folks they may already know of a shop to have send it to you. I'd ask them about that. You'll pay some fees and postage but that's really the worst of it. I hope you get it all sorted out. Best of luck to you buddy. |
I think one of the major problems with America today is not enough families sit down to a big plate of squirrels momma just fried up.

And i've never left a gun anywhere before. And it's no excuse, but I had a pregnant wife telling me how hungry she was, a toddler screaming at me that she wanted this or that.. While i'm trying to gather up all my stuff and get the car loaded, and leave at a reasonable time so we can get home. That's how it happened. |

Another decent option is to book a Christmas stay with those folks and pick it up then..... |

| I wouldn’t even worry about defending myself in the other thread. It happens and you owned up to it. It doesn’t happen a lot, but we’ve had pistols left in the cabins where I work a number of times over the years. I just verify it’s not stolen, contact the owner, and set up a time for the owner to retrieve it. Luckily everyone for me has been somewhat local and able to drive back for them so I’ve not had to look into actually shipping a pistol back, but seems you are trying to do it the right way. |

OP, it happens. A lot… If the cabin owner has recovered it, they’ll most likely turn it over to the local police. You’ll have to go face-to-face to get it back. The police won’t release it out. If they haven’t yet turned it over to the authorities, let me know. I’m local and can retrieve it for you—ship it back to you any way you want. |

You can call me what you want, but I am not wrong. The only thing preventing you from shipping a gun to yourself is the shipper. ATF is clear on this and even lets you know the best way to address the package. Cut and paste from ATF website. May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity? Yes. A person may ship a firearm to him or herself in care of another person in the state where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner “in the care of” the out–of–state resident. Upon reaching its destination, persons other than the owner may not open the package or take possession of the firearm. But I found him on the ATF's website where they show licensed FFL's. And this guy was so friggen nice and cool when I called him. He said he used to be a police officer and I was lucky they didn't give it to them lol. He worked out the shipping and insurance costs, and he only asks for 10 dollars as cost of him going to the post office as his "transfer fee". I gotta give him more than that though for his troubles. He basically wants to do this for me for free.. Which I can't allow. Maybe a 20 dollar tip on top of the only 10 that he asked for? Now we are at the point where I gave the cabin owner his info and told her to call him at her convenience and they can set up a date and time that works for both of them. And i'm the one who screwed up, so there's no rush. If that's tomorrow great, if it's 3 weeks from now. Hey, no problem. I have other guns. Take your time. It was my fault is what I said. And I am gonna give them some money for the gas and inconvenience. And I can't believe after all this, they gave me a 5 star rating as a renter from them lol. They said they were happy because I left the place pretty much spotless and the cleaning lady didn't have to do much at all. So those are two really awesome folks I have dealt with from Tennessee. Wish the north was like that lol. |
