APS notifications started yesterday that 40 mph winds will result in power cutoff in Flagstaff area. Due to low fuel moisture. May be out for 12-24 hours. I'm in Doney Park. |

The electric utilities did this in Cali a couple of years ago after getting sued because their poorly maintained lines caused fires and loss of life as well as property. APS seems to be using the same playbook here, because they didn't get their 14% rate hike and therefore they obviously can't be expected to replace poles or cut trees back from their lines. What they're actually doing is turning their customers towards solar, energy storage systems, and backup generators because they can't be trusted to keep the fucking power on during a typical springtime wind event. |

Quoted: JKinAZ beat me to the answer. Ditto. I'm in PNF and APS has been really aggressive about informing us that this is an option. They haven't pulled the trigger in our area yet. On the plus side they've also been going nuts on maintenance and their vegetation clearance contractors were showing up about once a month over the winter. One thing to mention is that in all the stuff they've sent to us they have indicated if they do take this option, they're keeping the power off for 24 hours. We have enough outages during the monsoon season already that everyone in the area has backup power. |
