I would like to go and see Deadwood next year, how is April to visit? Are the casinos open year-round if we came out earlier? Would using a hotel in Deadwood be a good location if we planned day trips to Devils Tower and Mt. Rushmore? |

April is going to be sort of brown as its not quite spring, not shorts weather but you are unlikely to be snowed on. Just brisk nights. Most things in deadwood are open year round but you better own proper clothing if coming from FL earlier Deadwood an okay location to base out of, id say do one night in deadwood and do one night in rapid at hotel alex johnson if you can do atleast two nights. |

Deadwood is about as perfectly in between Mt Rushmore and devils tower as you can get. A little over an hour to both. Weather wise you are about 95% guaranteed to see snow at least on the ground. And a solid chance of it sprinkling down. March and April are our snowiest months. Temp wise expect 20 at night and 40 during the day. There is a huge difference in climate between early and late April. With early being more winter like. Our absolute most frigid months are end of January thru February. It's a good time of year to visit. Not too busy. Decent enough weather. You'll find good pricing for casino hotels as long as there isn't an event that weekend (st paddy's day, Mardi gras). |

I was in Deadwood in April one year and they got 8" of snow. It was pretty, went to Wild Bill's grave and the town was almost deserted. Walked around at night. Mt Rushmore- Drove over there a day after the snow in Deadwood. Roads were wet and slush. All I saw in the 3 hours I was there was George Washington's chin. Weather never cleared up. |
