I am the executor of the will/estate/trust. What do I need to know about Louisiana and any specific requirements for final wishes etc related to the deceased? I will be traveling there tomorrow from out of state. Please help? Thanks in advance, PRONTO |

Hire attorney !!! Do not know about you. But my sanity is worth a few grand. Louisiana law is based on Napoleonic Code When soms one pass it is bigger mess in Louisiana than any other state. There are all kinds of stuff in Louisiana law that can make it a total mess. Also talk to your local CPA because you will have tax issues in 2025 & 2026 What Parish ? |

The Louisiana purchase, which was in 1803, involved the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France, yes, but the territory had been administered by Spain since 1762, when France ceded it to Spain. France regained ownership in 1800, but did nothing about it, so it was still administered by Spain until 1803, when after the purchase by the U.S. the Spanish flag was hastily taken down and replaced with the French flag for ceremony's sake. The Napoleonic Code was established in France in 1804. LA civil law is different from the other 49 states, but because it is rooted in Spanish civil law, not English common law. So yeah, get a lawyer. |
