It has been quite a few years since we have held a Spring or Fall Shoot at the Angry Emu Range, located off I-20 near Madison, GA. Is there any interest in reviving this Georgia Hometown Forum tradition? I would definitely need more than a few volunteers to make this happen, assuming the GAHTF would like to gather together for a day/weekend of meeting and greeting your fellow GAHTF members at the Angry Emu Range this Spring. In the past it has essentially been a 3 day event. Friday is for setting up the range, Saturday would be the day of the event, and Sunday is devoted to tear down and clean up. The range can accommodate plenty of semi-primitive camping for anyone interested in arriving early and/or staying late. Minimal water and electricity can be provided, as well as the two outhouses that are on sight. In the past we have had anywhere from 35-50 attendees, with nearly 50% being females and children. I definitely encourage this to be a family friendly gathering! There has never been a charge for attending, but the range will happily accept donations to help cover maintenance and associated costs of providing the venue. Typically we have had a lunch on Saturday and have encouraged folks to bring their “signature” side dishes, and the range has provided burgers, dogs, as well as couple of sides, with the expectation of a small donation to help cover our costs. In the past we have suggested a donation of $15/person or $25/family to attend, and $10/person or $25/family for lunch. If your finances are lacking, come and enjoy the event totally free of charge! However, if you have multiple $100 bills that need a new home, we’ll be glad to provide them lodging in our donation jar. We would need volunteers to help with all of the above. Setup volunteers on Friday. Sign-in personnel, Range Officers, and cooks on Saturday. As well as a clean-up crew for Sunday morning. T-shirts commemorating the occasion have always been popular, and if someone is interested in designing and/or ordering custom T-shirts for the attendees, it would be a welcome relief to recruit a volunteer to be responsible for that thankless task! There would be campfires on Friday and Saturday nights for tall tales, as well as friendly camaraderie, and in the past there have been pot-luck suppers for those camping out on Friday and/or Saturday nights. Is there any interest in such an event? If so, when do you think would be a good weekend to hold this gathering? And is there anyone interested in volunteering for any of the above staffing positions? All suggestions and conversation are welcomed and encouraged. What say ye?!? |

I don’t have a trailer for my tractor but I have friends who do…so for me to come down and do some bush hogging, it would be easier to comedown a weekend or two before and knock that out. I know the last time I camped we were congregating to the right of the entry road before the power line cut. I could work that area along with the range/power line cut as well. However we do have the “RV cover” and picnic table area this time around. |

Cool! Provided I’m not out of town with the band (I should know more in coming weeks) Edit: looks like I’ll still be OCONUS until 3/2. Vote for April shoot… but if it’s 3rd weekend I’ll have the kids for my weekend visitation. Life. |

There is a pond, plenty of woods to explore, and a bunch of wide open space out there, not to mention a break for lunch, so they don’t have to be corralled into a small area and end up pummeling you with the “I’m bored” thing!!! 👍😉👍 |
| I've been scarce around the forum for a good while, have never attended, and my long-range skills are nil to the point of nonexistent, but (depending on the weekend) count me in. If I can make it, I'm in for Friday setup and/or Sunday morning cleanup. |

Work has me on a 21 day outage from 3/21 on. Maybe early March or mid April? Open to suggestions. We'll let this thread go through January then I'll make a new one with a poll so we can nail down some actual dates people can attend. |
