The ones I tested had 7/07 born on dates... the only thing that happened to them was that they split on the back of the mag. Right to the left of the seam. It was -20 to -30 below when I tested them! I drug one of them behind my snowmachine for several miles, but it was in the hard packed snow, and nothing happened to it!
I did a huge thread about it, and it went to like 30 pages... but I can't find it in the archives!

The thing is that at the time I didn't notice that the 2 that I tested had cracked right on the back of the mag. When I contacted Magpul they said that if they were going to fail, it would be right where I described! - Clint |

Isn't amazing how we expect our gear to endure more than we do?
you won't find me sitting outside all night at -40*F to see if I will work in the morning after being dropped 7 feet! I know I'll be frozen to death!!! Having said that, I've put a loaded Okay mag and a loaded magpul mag outside in the snow to see if they will still work in the AM. I don't plan to drop them though! | I broke an 08/08 date coded pmag at around -35. It had set out for 36 ours at temperatures colder than -40 but it warmed up on the day the mag broke. There is a crack from the top front corner all the way down to the first rib. The follower broke in half but was held in position by the spring. One of the feed lips cracked and believe it or not, the rifle and mag worked flawlessly in a live fire test until the feed lip finally came off! After that it still held every round in the mag but it would strip two rounds instead of one when cycling through the rifle. |
