So let me see if I have this right...I can apply for a FL, non-resident CCW (I am a former police officer in FL, now living in Suffolk County, Long Island NY). Once my FL comes through, I can then apply for CT CCW. When THAT comes through, I'd be able to carry here on Long Island concealed?
Or do I have it all messed up?

I thought the whole purpose of obtaining a Florida permit was to carry in 29 other states or something like that. In getting the Fl. carry permit, that will allow you to file for a Ct. carry permit. I don't think either will transfer at all to NYS. You need to meet other criteria in order to obtain a NYS carry permit in Suffolk county, i.e. carry a significant amount of $$ with proof, have death threats against you, etc. |

To carry in Suffolk you must get a New York Permit. The Florida permit will allow you to carry in approximately 38 States but some State require that you reside in Florida. A word to the wise , know the Law in the State you plan to CCW in . If you have a Florida permit ,which is probably the best to get if you live East of the Mississippi River you can use that permit or any CCW Permit to obtain the Ct. Permit. | I just got off a detail that involve some NYPD retirees helping to provide some EP armed services. When the VIP's needed to travel to NJ's Newark Airport, they were instructed by our company to leave their HG's home because the company didn't want to deal with any cross border shit. They had a past situation where the NYPD guys crossed NJ borders with HP rounds and got fined for each one that had in possession, which added up to a serious fine. So much for the LEO brotherly love when it comes to NJ. |
i still haven't got an answer yet. i sent my app out in early sept. i called there today and they are just waiting on my fingerprint results from the fbi. guess they can't control that part. hopefully not much longer. it seems the fbi has a slight backlog problem

Does the electronic fingerprinting save much time? I'll be visiting next month and could easily stop in to have it done?
A bigger question is will my "hunting and target only" restriction on my NY permit cause me any problems with obtaining a full CCW non-resident permit in FL? Anyone been down this road already? |

AFAIK yes to Q1 and your NY license has nothing to do with applying for or receiving a FL CCW. For a definitive answer to Q1 call or e-mail the FL licensing division. They are very nice to deal with. They WANT to issue you a license. In FL gun owner's are not treated like "not yet convicted" criminals. |

While they might be slow processing your app (sheer volume) and after awhile it probably doesn't hurt to give them a call, they were very polite and professional when I had to deal with them for my situation. Certainly not like NY/NJ agency service types. |

YMMV but I had problems getting my prints done in NJ for FL.
Problem is many towns refer you to Sagem Morpho cant spell the name for finger printing (unless its for NJ FID). Sagem... Its a private agency. FL requires prints done by a LE agency... Its a catch 22. I originally submitted prints to FL done by a retired LEO. FL bounced the prints like 40 days after application filing. I wound up being in FL a week after I recd the deficiency letter, so I went to FL sheriff's office and got printed electronically. about 45 days later app was approved. |

Guess I'll have to do this the old fashioned way.
