I have a TX-22, a GSG 1911 and a few other .22lr pistols... a few weeks back I bought a P17 for $239 from a local gun shop... since then from day one... went through a box of 500 Thunderbolts and a box of 333 federal, and a misc handful of rem goldenbuletts and sub sonics... it ran everything. I'm probably at about 800 +rounds fired, NO failure to eject, NO failure to feed... I had the usual 10 or so light primer strikes, where I put the cartridge back in the mag and it then fired (sometimes they have to be rotated a bit) I have owned a few sub 2000 rifles but for the most part avoided kel-tec... until now... I'm going this week to buy me another P17 for the wife, and maybe one for my daughter.... what a great design.. only gripe is... I shoot alot without eye protection.. this things spits a bit back at ya. so better cover them ... |

I have 3 of the P17s and they're about the only KT model that I'll recommend. Also have a CP33 which has generally been a jamfest but seems to run better with a can, and is a lot of fun when it works. The P17s have recently been at historically low prices. |

Thats too bad about your CP33. Mine is one of the most reliable semiauto .22lr that I own. Are you using a mag loader? My p17 is great too. Not one single problem. It does put a lot of debris in your face when shooting suppressed. Thats my only gripe about the pistol. |

What ammo are you shooting in your CP33? If you are shooting CCI SV and loading the magazines correctly, you shouldn’t be having any hiccups whatsoever. |

I like mine, I carry it around the yard when working in the garden in case I have a chance to pop a squirrel. It works very well with a Sparrow Rimfire can as well. Never noticed any blowback. Now that I see that they come in desert tan I'm going to need a new one.

| I remember when they first came out there were reliability issues with them. I told myself I'd give them time to work the bugs out. I bought one a couple of months ago and I am very favorably impressed. It is 2/3s the size of my TX-22, but the mags hold the same number of rounds. Accuracy is very good and it has been very reliable even when using bulk pack .22. And the price on them just keeps going down. I paid about $220 for mine at Simmons in Bessemer, but have seen them on line for as low as $150. |

The CP33 can be massively improved with a little tweaking and polishing. Mine has been 100% since I polished up the feed ramp and wear points on the bolt. I've done some other tweaks but that was the big performance one. It's the same as the picture below, except I swapped out the Holosun for a PA 3x prism. As for the P17, mine has been awesome. Swapping to a MCarbo trigger was a huge improvement as well. It does spit a bit running a can, but beyond that it's been 100%.

I did buy a holster for my wife from Rounded Concealment, and she is interested, but needs to train on swiping the safety, since it is a single action only pistol. But she likes shooting it. One thing we found out by accident is it will feed and fire 22 Longs...my son wasn't paying attention to magazine loading. It worked without a hitch. Attached File |

P-17 problems: 1 Inexpensive so you end up with too many of them. (Note: Too many is a figure of speech and is a fake concept.) 2 3 sixteen round magazines gets a suppressor very hot quickly. Still have to tighten it twice every mag, so hand gets hot too. Fortunately mags are slow to load, so there is some cooling time. 3 Magazines are slow to load and mess up old guys thumb nails. 4 P-17 requires a larger ammo budget. Yes, even though you are using inexpensive bulk ammo. 5 Mark IVs get less love and quality time from you. |
