Hi to All. I have a 1962 vintage smith and Wesson model 10, heavy barrel 4 inch. great gun, shoots well.... but, does anyone have an idea of a factory re-blue cost. Its starting to look its age, (like me 70) and a face lift is in order, for the gun not me. thanks to all tom |

Refinishing is almost ALWAYS a bad idea. For common guns it costs a good buck for top quality ( the S&W factory has an age cutoff for what they work on and a 10-6 might not make the cut. ) often as much as the gun is currently worth. Just an example: You have a $400 model 10, you spend $400 on a first class refinish it is still worth $400. A month old model ten can be had for a lot less than that! Unless you live on the beach or in a swamp, even the most basic care of a finish worn gun will keep it rust free and functional On collectible guns, value absolute tanks with refinishing. An old classic with 10% finish might run for example $1500. The same gun refinished will go for $700 |
