I've got a couple of them, I think all but one came with used guns I bought and the other was for a gun that I couldn't find a holster for maybe. I'm sure I probably tried them at some point, but not a fan of exposed muzzles for whatever reason. Same reason I'm not a fan of the belt slide style. They work and the leather pulls the gun in snugly, just personal preference. If you like it use it, just be aware of weapons retention.

Jeff Cooper wore a Yaqui rig with his 5” 1911 inserted as he bounced around Gunsite’s various desert training venues on a small 3- or 4-wheeler, …. so there’s that. I’ve used my Yaqui rig on a Wilderness instructor’s belt to carry my 3” New Agent, concealed under a large t-shirt, on hot weather days. No printing or retention issues. |

That one with adjustable retention was what I carried a BHP and Commander-length 1911 in as a detective. Also prone to carrying a G27 in a back pocket sans holster so that was high retention . Yes, the good old days.

I don’t like them for a couple reasons. The gun can be pushed out of the holster if the muzzle contacts something, even your foot if you kneel down. The exposed muzzle and front sight are exposed to damage, which will happen eventually if you carry it enough. |

I have a couple of those that I've owned and used for more than 20 years. I have the exact one pictured that fit 1911/BHP, another similar that fits CZ-75/Beretta 92, and a third that fits K-frame and L-frame revolvers. I think I bought them all dirt cheap used. I rarely CC OWB so I don't invest in many dedicated OWB holsters. These work fine for the occasional cool/cold weather carry under a jacket or coat and they fit many different guns. I mostly use them for general range practice though. Again, I'm not going to invest in dedicated holsters just to do drills with guns I rarely carry. These aren't great holsters but they do protect the trigger and are worlds better than soft sided nylon or cheap thin leather holsters many use. I actually used these for my Colt CCO and my CZ-75 when I was shooting USPSA and they worked well. If I had an EDC that was regularly carried OWB then I'd definitely get a better dedicated holster than these. A good quality pancake holster has all the benefits of these (except cheap cost) with better retention and protection. |

I had a brief affair with the true Yaquis. One was a cheapo, one was not. Like Ken said above, after the second time I nearly dumped the gun from just kneeling, I dumped the Yaqui. My heel would hit the muzzle kneeling. Looked good on Cooper tho. |

No. I liked the idea until I realized that people seeing a holster isn't nearly as troublesome as seeing the actual gun. At least with a holster it might not register as a gun. It could potentially save you from Karen calling the cops, or screaming to a store manager. |

| A classic traditional carry option. I have a few don Hume JIT slides which are sort of similar. I actually like them for my revolvers. For a holster you can typically find in the junk holster bin at most established gun shops for under 20 bucks, you could do a lot worse. |

Muzzles sticking out is like walking around with your johnson hanging out your fly. I bought a Dillon Yaqui slide decades ago and it quickly took up residence in the duffel bag of unloved holsters. I think at that time Mernickle was making Dillon leather. Dillon the reloading press company in case there are others. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

If your have $150+ to buy a good leather holster or $50+ for a good kydex holster, to fit one specific gun, then do that. For a $20-30 somewhat universal holster, this is a decent option unless you are really lucky to get find a good holster that fits your gun in a bargain big (especially if it isn't a Glock 19). |

Dillon the reloading press company in case there are others. I always wondered who was making the original Dillon holsters. I bought a black pancake style for my 642 years ago and it is extremely well made and was very reasonably priced. Some years later I bought another 642 pancake holster from them (for my father) and it was obviously not the same manufacturer. He never cared for it and it lives in the box of unloved holsters. I very rarely carry OWB anymore but when I started carrying I often used a pancake or Combat Master style because I was carrying a 1911 or P226 (this was before the availability of so many smaller guns). IMO, they conceal better by smoothing the outline and they cover the gun (I agree that for whatever reason, seeing metal freaks some folks out more than a leather holster, maybe their brains just don't put the two together |

You ever tried to find a leather holster built specifically for a Star 30M? ![]() The reason I used the word Yaqui is it got more interest - I know that isn't a Yaqui holster, it never was, but with the extra length hanging out that's what it reminded me of, which was what prompted the thought. Thanks to everyone who responded, much appreciated. I think I will let this holster sit on the top shelf of the closet again until or unless I buy another CZ P-01. |

Use them now and then for various firearms with a good belt. I’ve never had any issues with them. I guess I prefer a less bulky holster, leather only for me. I have more expensive holsters, vertical shoulder rigs, etc., probably 30 or so in all. I use whatever works as long as it’s leather. |

Like many long time shooters, I have a bunch of holsters which I've acquired over the decades for various handguns. Most of which aren't now used much if any. And Yes, I have one leather Yaqui style for 1911s and it is one of the ones not used at all anymore. Works well for some people, but I'm not one of them. I have also gone from all leather holsters to mostly kydex. As in most things handguns, it's just personal preference on holster style and material. |

I have a Hume JIT for 1911's and I use it quite a bit, being well aware that the muzzle can be pushed upwards. I can place any barrel length 1911 in it. It works well for wandering around the property, or lounging about the house. I won't wear it on a motorcycle. My tiny Safariland plastic holster is only slightly larger and has positive click in, click out retention. That holster does wear the finish considerably more than the JIT so it very rarely see's a vintage Govt Model especially a nickle version. Horses for courses. |
