I'm considering purchasing a Glock 20. The gen 5 is probably what I would get, but right now the cheapest new one on Gunbroker is $1000. The V model I can get locally or on GB for $620. Nobody is sure when the gen 6 will come out, so the only other option for a new one that isn't $1000 is the V model. I was wondering what everyone's opinion on the V model is. Also I understand that they have different parts than a gen 5, and was wondering if you think that parts for the V will be readily available in the coming years. I don't want to buy something unsupported, I got an FN510 a few months ago and haven't been able to get mags or recoil springs for it. Would you buy a V model or wait until the gen 6 comes out? (Whenever that will be) Thanks guys |

If a new Gen 6 model 20 or 21 is released it will have the same trigger house and slide configuration as the V model. I think there is a greater chance the parts for previous generations loosing support before the V or Gen 6. I have a Gen 5 Glock 20 MOS and it is a nice gun but from a user perspective I doubt I could tell any difference compared to a Glock 20 V. I’d prefer Glock had not adopted the changes in the V series but from a reliability perspective I think the V models are gtg. I bought a Glock 19.6 and even with the changes it is still basically a Glock 19 and does everything the previous Generations accomplished but with a few subtle changes. |

I got a 19X Gen 5, and I also bought a 19x V model. I guess the biggest issue with the V model is parts availability. The only thing I swapped out so far was the slide stop lever and that worked wonderfully. Then again I don't think anything really breaks on a Glock so chances are you'll just need a recoil spring and that appears to be the standard 19x compatible one. I think that's the only thing you should consider if you venture into the V series in that you probably can't swap out triggers and I'm not sure how many companies are going to make one. |

This is my experience with my gen 20V as well. It is very unreliable with most hardcast I attempted to run through it except HSM brand ammo. I have wolff mag springs, 20# and 22# recoil springs and KKM barrel. I've tried all kinds of different ammo and different configurations and finally settled on stock mag springs/stock recoil spring/KKM barrel and the HSM ammo. I really, really hope I do not have to bet my life on this gun running a full mag. |

I was able to shoot the gen5 the other day. So far it's been 100% reliable. Around 100 rounds fired. I shot some CCI 180gr (these are small pistol primers by the way in case anybody cares about that for reloading), Winchester white box 180gr, and Federal Fusion 200gr that are kind of a jacketed soft point, supposed to be 1200fps. No hardcast of any kind yet, or 220gr. There's only black bears, mountain lions, and sometimes Jaguars here in the mountains and desert. No brown or grizzly bears. I might not even get into hardcast or 220gr, we'll see. I ordered an Arctos Arms chest holster for it just now. Looks like this.
