Why isn't the HK45 more popular? (Page 1 of 2)

| I have never owned an HK handgun, but have always wanted one, especially in .45. I always read how everyone prefers the USP45 over the HK45. I understand that the USP holds 12 rounds and the HK45 holds 10. I also understand that the HK45 is just an updated USP? The HK45 is also priced considerably lower than the USP45. Will I regret buying an HK45? |

That's a great price. |

I like my hk45 better than my USP45 Elite…id keep it between the two. It was also my first Hk 45 pistol—i traded a sig 1911 in 45 for it right here on arf and couldn’t be happier. In fact, i liked it so much I decided I didn’t need my P7M8’s anymore and sold them too. Also come and gone since the HK45 are p2000, usp .40, and p30 9 longslide, vp 40. Hks that lasted alongside it are a p30 .40 longslide and USP 9. |
| I don’t know, but I prefer the HK45c. The HK45 line is made in the US which may make it less popular but means they’re cheaper, and they’re kind of a mix of p30 and p2000 look and features. There’s a list of improvements over the usp, 1913 rail, grip, mag release, o ring on barrel etc. |

The usp 45c grip is too sandpapery for my tastes, I prefer the 45c smoothish grip. The p30sk grip is great too. |

Yes, I've got both hockey tape and whatever this is called. Talon grips (rubbery) are on the way for it. The smooth grip is why I sold my P2000. This is going to be a keeper (hell I traded a 43x MOS for it) - might look into having it professionally stippled. I've done a few glocks over the years but would source this out. |

| I have a USP 45 and a Hk45c. I really cant say I like one over the other. Both are great for different reasons. I really do want to pick up the full size Hk45, I just have not done it yet. I personally really like the grip texture on the 45c. The full size has a different texture and overall feel. Its one of the few guns that feels like it was made specifically for my hands. The same with the P30. The USP line has a blockier grip than the Hk45. Thats why it holds more rounds. The Hk45 came out of trying to improve the 1911. |

met @amped at the range this morning. The HK45c did not jive with his mits. +/- 100 more rounds fired zero issues. Threaded barrel and adjustable rear suppressor sights are in order. |

I hate the spiderman grips. I also don’t like that there’s no option for a red dot, and some of them can’t even be cut for a red dot. My biggest critique of modern HK’s is innovation. The company that pioneered light rails and threaded barrels and most of their pistols can’t mount a red dot or even be cut for one is something I think they should have addressed 5 years ago. Especially the HK45 being a US made pistol meant for the US market. I still plan to buy a 45 HK soon.

In all honesty they have to discontinue models and modernize it. Either USP-II or HK45/HK40/HK9 plus C models. Use the 17round P30 mags but it's time to improve on the P30 and P2000 IMO. I do agree that the spiderman grips are actually a net loser, they make manipulating the pistol more difficult and I swear blocky grips are more accurate because the grip is more consistent. |
| I don't think you can go wrong either way. I like the grip feel on the HK 45 more so than the USP but the USP just works better for me. The USP is big and kind of bulky, unless you get the compact and that is a great pistol. Recoil is more of a personal thing to me but that being said, the USP does make shooting the .45 a little tamer. |
Be the change you want in this world.

Ive came to create a post about the HK45ct vs the USP 45. And this post is basically it I think. I am a lefty and in a 10 round mag state. Should I automatically go to the HK45ct having the ambi slide release? The USP mag capacity means nothing to me. I also see the HK45 gets the o ring barrel from the Expert and Tactical USP's. I have had an Expert 9 in the past and love the USP. Was planning on another Expert but the HK45ct is really appealing! |

![]() Got it out early this morning. Another boring 100 rounds. Will be going with new sights, I'm leaning Dawson but might also go adjustable. |

The 45c carries great. I find it very comfortable concealed. The USP45 is not that much bigger, but the grip is longer. I have large hands, and the USP is perfect for me. Both of mine are V1, and I like the trigger better on the 45c. Both are lasers too. |

Mostly a range toy. I can't carry in my state yet but will be able to eventually. I'm in NJ so being able to carry is still relatively new. I just haven't gotten the permit yet but when I do, I plan to carry a Glock 19x or a S&W M&P 360 to start out with and get use to those first. I am a lefty but can shoot both but I require ambi controls on my pistols. I never could do a Glock until the Gen 5s with the ambi slide release . Mainly why I am looking at the HK45CT but for another hundred, I am leaning heavy towards the USP Expert 45. |

I got my USP45 in 1999, and it is still one of my favorite guns. I travel to NJ several times a year. I really wish I could carry there. |

.45 ACP is like a manual transmission. They work just fine. Some of us prefer them. But the kid’s aren’t fans and that kinda sealed the fate of the HK45. Plus you have all these faggot mag release button fans. If I could reliably run .45 Super in an HK45 that would be it for me. But since that is a no no, I stick with my G21. |

Nothing wrong with a G21 and 45 SUPER, if that's what works BEST for you. But not everybody is having difficulty with 45 SUPER in the HK 45. https://www.hkpro.com/threads/45-super-in-a-hk45.480600/ Not sure which load you were using or if you tried various 45 SUPER loads. I agree that anything that takes a round in the thoracic cavity with even standard-velocity 45 ACP ball ammo is done-fer right quick. Certain bullet designs or cartridge lengths may not play nicely with all manner of .45 class guns. If you gotta buy factory ammo, I can see where it would simply not be worth the cost to try to get a balky gun to play nicely with 45 SUPER. |

Never tried it myself, I wanted to, but threads on HKPro convinced me it was a fools errand. And everything I read said my G21 would run 255gr hard cast .45 Super just fine, which it does. It's something I think about trying myself, but it's a back burner day dream. Though it doesn't stop me from checking prices on HK45's, and recognizing the dull itch is still there. |

Yeah, plain ol’ 45ACP 230 ball will already shoot through three men, and keep on trucking. The purpose of Gucci bullets in 45 ACP is literally to get them to slow down rapidly, and kill ONLY the target. Move to 45 Super, and I’m not sure what you’re supposed to shoot with it at any distance you could expect to hit something with a handgun. |

I just ordered Talon grips. Does anyone know the difference between the threaded barrels at HKPro for the 45C? The HKP17449 is $279, while the HKP 01036 is $339. Never mind I found what I was looking for. Likely no difference performance wise. But for those who must have the German made I guess the option is there. If you have shot one or both barrels, any likes or dislikes, fall off in accuracy? It looks like the 01036 is German made.
