I have that crew served handgun seen below. If you have it with a suppressor, and an LAM, then it could be a competitor to Metal Gear Solid's MK23 , which is another 45ACP pistol.. The main reason I got the FN over any other 45ACP is that I am left handed, and the ambi controls on the FN is nice... Then I discovered having 15+1 with a suppressor and a light/laser makes it an crew served weapon in weight. Attached File |
I am just a Combat Hot-Air Balloon Pilot.. Our craft is 50X quieter than the B-2 Spirit. The enemy can't hear us until we drop bombs on them..

Carried a 21sf at work bc....grand fathered in. All 9s now. When they were blowing out shields I bought a 9 and a 45. The 45 has seriously sharp checkering and I was restricted to the 9 off duty. I had figured I would carry the 45 eventually. Now I'm retired. I think about carrying the 45 but I'm seeing too may videos with multiple attackers and bad guys that don't turn and run. A self defense case at work was a real eye opener...two bad guys, one taken down with a head shot immediately and then a shoot out the other with his glock and drum mag. Now I lean more towards higher capacity like a shield plus or a Max 9... But for now I still carry the shield 9. That being said, I never felt the need to drop the 21SF. 14 rounds of 45 is superior to 17 or 18 9mm imho......but 12 9mm is probably better than 7 45s.. If I only had the 45 shield at this point, I probably would not be any more motivated to make a switch than I am now. And not for nothing, the comfortable gun that you carry is far more effective than the uncomfortable gun that you don't. The Shield was the first ccw that was truly comfortable for me to carry. I had a 5 stainless 357 originally. Then picked up a g27... Neither one of those were comfortable. Then I got the shield with an iwb...night and day. |

About 15+ years ago, Iistened to some trainers on a podcast that made me give the 45 a thought. I'm a big fan of thought exercise and thinking things through. I get paid to 'what if?'. The group offered this; You come home from a day at work. You observe your wife's car, and an unknown vehicle in your drive, the front door kicked in. You know you wife and kids(s) are supposed to be home. Nobody is answering their phone. Ignoring the 'call the cops' answer. Pretend you live very rural, response will likely be an eternity. The rule in this game says you have to engage. You have 2 choices available. A 1911, 1 chambered and a reload mag. 8+8+1. You also have a G17, 1 chambered and a reload mag. 17+17+1. The mental outcome of this cemented me staying 9mm strictly over capacity. 45 is still effective, more so with modern loads. But(for me) it's too hard to ignore way more carry volume in a similar weight/size class. Yes, dudes will poo poo skill, placement, nobody's trained in CQB/clearing, the only answer is an AR pistol in 300 Win Mag with a 50 round drum..... |

I am a fan of .45 acp and carried my Vigil commander yesterday. I am still perplexed by the military going to 9mm as 9mm ball sucks compared to 45 ball. This is a fact that I cannot be convinced of otherwise. I'm not talking about penetration through barriers or equipment between the two, 45 ball is more effective against human targets than 9mm ball. For those who can use defensive ammo, good quality effective 9mm defensive ammo isn't cheap so the cost argument is trash too. The only redeeming quality of 9mm in my opinion is it's less recoil and increased ammo capacity. |
I just traded for a Colt New Agent 1911 in 45acp. I haven't shot it yet but it's going into the rotation once I get the accessories I like. I also carry an Sig P229 in .40 S&W and a CZ P-07 in 9mm. That's my rotation.

I alternate ALOT but the .45's I rotate are: Para LDA CCO .45ACP Kahr CW45 cut to PM length Kahr P45 AMT Backup 45 (all 25lbs of trigger of it) Full size 1911 on occasion... |

| I occasionally carry my Vigil 1911 45 ACP. Usually on Friday. I call it 45 Friday. I still love the platform. But a SA Echelon 4.0 or a Glock 27, still have more magazine capacity. If you carry a firearm for an emergency why not carry a higher capacity platform. The U.S. Army issued me a 1911 over 30 years ago. I still love my 1911's. But modern high capacity, and lighter firearms with a (RDS) are a better option. IMO. |

| I Carry my Smith and Wesson CSX-E most of the time. Gen 5 Glock 23 sometimes. If I am going to shoot my CSX at the range I am going Holster the Glock 23 for the day. Sometimes I carry my Compact Sig 320 in .45, but that’s kid of rare, I do to be carried come to think about it. Variety is the spice of life isn’t? |

| Been carrying a commander size with a 13+1 capacity for well over 40 years....it still works just great. I just sent the slide into Trijicon to have the night sights refreshed as the tritium had gotten dim. Trijicon did a great job and had the slides finished within 2 weeks...I sent in two slides. |

In my rotation: Original version Glock 30 that I've had for close to 30 years. Khar CM45 Apex'ed S&W M&P 1.0 45C Others that I have that may be carried some time or the other: Apex'ed S&W M&P 1.0 fullsize S&W M&P Shield .45 S&W M&P 2.0 .45C Carried in the past and regret getting rid of: German made Sig P220 Ruger P90DC Ironically, have never owned a 1911 pattern gun.  |

My S&W 4566 is always in the rotation. … It was fully hard-chromed by Tripp Research (circa 2010), and has had a trigger/action job and other tuning by a ‘smith who specializes in the 3rd Generation S&W autos. Great shooter, and the DA-to-SA transition is truly beautiful.
