I'm looking for opinions on an optic "family" for two pistols, a German P229 (new E2 Optics cut slide), and a P365 Macro. These optics will be on EDC pistols, not just range toys. I don't "abuse" my EDC gear, but I'm not "gentle" with it either. I'm considering the three optic "families" because the frames use different footprints and I'll need a different optic for each pistol. The 229 uses the Delta Point Pro footprint, and the P365 uses the RMSc footprint. Vortex Defender ST Enclosed And Vortex Defender CCW Both use the 2032 battery and the Defender ST Enclosed gets some good reviews, including from Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics. The 2032 battery is easy to find compared to the 1620 batteries of the Holosun EPS and Sig Romeo Pro Enclosed. But it does have a higher deck height than the other two and will require Suppressor height irons if the user wants BUIS on the pistol (I do). They have an excellent lifetime warranty and are a US company, although the product itself is made in China. EPS "Core" MRS and EPS Carry MRS I have experience with the EPS MRS "core" and currently have two of them, a red and a green. I prefer the red over the green. They have been reliable and are documented to take a beating. This uses the 1620 battery, and while customer service is good, it is email only, and they are made in communist China. The deck height is low enough to allow the use of normal height sights. Sig Romeo X Enclosed Pro and Romeo X Enclosed Compact Made by Sig, for Sigs, assembled in the US (from some Chinese Parts). Lifetime warranty from a US Company. Use the 1620 battery. Low deck height means no need for suppressor height sights. Early Sig Romeo's have a questionable history at best... I do have two Sig pistol optics, a Romeo 1 Pro and a Romeo Pro X (not enclosed) and neither one has failed me yet, but they have not been used hard yet either. I have seen videos and gotten anecdotal evidence from people who have abused the crap out of their Romeo Pro X's, so I'm not too worried about the durability of these current Sig MRDS. Thoughts? For the record, while I like Sig pistols, it is because they fit my hands. I don't think that Sig's are the greatest pistols in the world, they just fit me better than Glocks. Sig has absolutely earned some derision and hostility for some self inflicted injuries in the public space. Nothing wrong with Glocks, they just don't fit me as well. This is a Ford vs Chevy thing in my mind. |
| I have a pair of P320s, one with a Romeo X pro enclosed and the other with an EPS. The Romeo looks better on the gun to me but the EPS has a crisper dot. That could just be my eyes though. Price wise the EPS is a little bit cheaper but I ended up buying a different plate for it so the price was the same in the end. |

I wouldn’t limit my options due to the slide’s mounting holes. I’d find whatever conversion/adapter plate is needed to mount the optic I want. For instance, I run a Holosun 507 Comp on a P365 TACOPS. Attached File |

Pick the optic that meets your needs and make it work. That technology has been growing exponentially and 5 years from now may be unrecognizable. |

Of those I’d pick Vortex. I have some OPMOD thing that’s taken more hits than a redheaded stepchild as an offset on a rifle and never skipped a beat. Of my 3 Holosun pistol dots, one had a turret fail, one had the shake awake fail, and the 3rd that works only has a couple hundred through it. People swear by them but I can’t just assume I have bad luck at this point. Haven’t owned a Sig pistol dot yet. |

The old Vortex Venom did not offer shake awake which makes it a poor choice for CCW, but the new version shows some promise. I picked up a pair of these recently and am giving them a test. I shot the G21-5 in two matches this past weekend and it held up so far. Otherwise I have quite a few Holosun optics and they have proven themselves over time. Others I am skeptical of. |
| I have a Romeo X Compact Enclosed on my Glock 43X. I think the design is better than the EPS; buttons are small and protected, it has a normal battery cap and not a tray, and it’s a true RMSc footprint and not proprietary like Holosun. Low deck height so stock height irons work. Glass is really nice. |

Not that it is on your list but have you looked at the Holosun 407K or 507K ? They are a direct fit for the P365. I have several Holosun products and have never had an issue with any of them. Also, if you decide you don't like it after a while, I have personally found Holosun optics have the best resale value and desire on the used market. For the quality you get, Holosun optics are very good and will last a long time. All of them are Chinese made so no difference there. I had a Romeo when they originally came out and they were garbage. I lost any hope in them. They might be better now but I will never get one again. |

My go-to Pistol Optic is the Holosun EPS Carry MRS Green (the Red version doesn't function as well in Auto Mode). And it's Deck Height enables me to use it on pistols with regular sized irons while still being able to (barely) see the irons in the window. I've put over 10,000 rounds through various pistols running them without a single problem or issue.  |
| My preferred was Holosun but I prefer Vortex now. I have all open emitters; the CCW on my 48, the comp-dot on my 34, and the XL on my 17. No issues with any but the oldest optic is about a year old. I’ve only ever had an issue with a Holosun 507C that would flicker or turn off when shooting with it but it happened the first time I shot with it and was replaced. I’ve had a few Holosun’s since then and haven’t had anymore issues. |

Part of me does not believe you because I have dealt with Vortex warranty and know people who have. No one I know has ever come away thinking Vortex failed. They literally give you zero grief around any issue and just take care of it. They even have a dedicated forum here and will respond to comms from here. Slight tangent opinion: the major thing slowing pistol optic acceptance in the general community has been the variety of mounting footprints. Can you imagine if rifle optics each had their own pet mounting system that had nothing to do with Picatinny?  Nick |

I just got off the phone with Vortex about a 12oclock scope dot mount I wanted to buy but couldnt find the product code to search for it. A friendly CSR said its on us and took my info and is having it shipped out with a bag of extra screws for free. Ive been a huge fan of the CCW Enclosed sight since it came out and have been putting it on all my handguns. |
