Frustrated with Vortex at the moment. I recently purchased a Vortex Defender-ST Enclosed micro red dot optic new from Primary Arms. The sight came in a sealed box and appears to have all of the accessories with it. However the Vortex tool that came with the sight does not fit the windage and elevation turrets. The one end of the tool fits the mounting screws. It also has two flat nubs on either side of the middle flat piece. Those straight nubs fit the battery compartment cover. The other end the tool, has a tiny cross or "plus sign" that looks like a tiny version of the cross on the battery compartment cover. This does NOT fit the windage and elevation turrets. The turrets have a very small slot that is concave. The turrets do not have a cross. There are two "wings" on either side of the small cross. They look like they might fit the turret slots but they are too thick. I have some tiny screw drivers, but they do not fit the turrets. My screw drivers are either to wide or too small and none of them have a curved tip that matches the concave slot of the turrets on this sight. Did Vortex put the wrong tool in the box with this sight? Right now, I have nothing to adjust the windage and elevation turrets with. I've looked online to see if there is a different tool that fits these turrets but I haven't found one so far. Same tool came with my Defender CCW Enclosed. It fits and works, although it's awkward how it's designed. You don't use it like a screwdriver, hold it like a ratchet. One of those straight blades on the cross looking end is what fits for me. |

The “wings” as you called them are intended to fit into the windage/elevation turrets. I have 3 Vortex optics from the Defender line and all the tools fit all of the optics. Are you sure it’s not just a little snug and you need to apply a little bit of pressure? |

Well this is embarrassing. Yup - the "wings" on the tool DO fit the turrets. I just needed to put on my readers to see the turrets well enough to get the the tool aligned in the slot. My bad. Dang old eyes. Thanks for the replies! And I agree with "blt-2-drg", the tool is awkward to use the way it's made. It hits the battery compartment and side of the pistol when adjusting the windage and it hits the rear sight when adjusting the elevation. AT7WE2 |
