So I have an STI Tactical 5.0 that I bought for 3-gun ten years ago. It's stock other than I added an adjustable Novak rear and a fiber optic front sight. Nothing wrong with it, and I'm just a casual 3-gunner, but I'm kinda jealous of all the hotness that has come out in the 2011 world lately. I've been toying with upgrading the STI, especially since Staccato has recently clarified that they will not be warrantying any legacy STI's. That being the case, I'd probably make these changes: Optic cut Chunk port Re-finish after slide work Red dirt trigger and possibly an ignition kit of some sort if adjusting the sear spring doesn't do the trick Send the grip to Extreme Shooters to be stippled, or replace with MJD grip (or maybe even a Miller aluminum grip) Cosaint extended slide release Or should I just sell it and buy something new like a 2k11 or a Bul Tac Comp? |
ARD response, do both   fix yours up then save up a few bucks & get some new hotness some are nice, but w/ typical QC issues & others are up there in price |

Spoiler alert, the new hotness is more sizzle than steak. In your shoes, I’d upgrade. Though there are some folks who seek out the STIs. Whether you want an optic cut might be the break over point IMO, may be worth getting a new one. Also I wouldn’t recommend a chunk port unless you don’t tend to compete, it will bump you into Open where you’ll be at a disadvantage vs major ammo and real comps. |
