| Such is the plight of such works. On one hand, the materials and workmanship are worth something. On the other hand, i can drop a marvel kit on my wilson combat for a few hundred or buy an original Ace for the same $. Nevertheless, I applaud the effort of making a dedicated 1911 in. 22 if the company stands behind both accuracy and reliability. It will be more of a niche item due to the saturation of. 22 kits out there and people's lack of fiscal commitment on the platform. |

Scottsdale gun club has always been proud of their products and I remember hearing that US Palm is some how affiliated with them. But regardless of the sticker prices there are enough well off people who plunk down that kind of cash without thinking about what they are actually buying. Or because it is the latest and greatest super tactical variant of an AR-15.
On a side note, their customer service almost universally blows. At least in their retail store. Their rang guys aren't too bad however, and their instructors are excellent guys. But try getting any kind of reasonable service there if you don't walk in with a couple grand hanging from your neck. I stopped going there because I got tired of waiting for their sales people to finish their phone calls or conversations to check me out with my merchandise. Last time I bought a gun there (blue label Glock) it took me 45 minutes to get someones attention to pull it out and get me the paperwork. And I was one of 3 customers in the store at the time, and there were easily 6 or so employees around the place. |

I applaud the efforts of US Palm and the Scottsdale Gun Club for building and marketing these dedicated 1911 platform/ .22 LR pistols. HOWEVER, as previously stated numerous times... the price is way out of line!
The typical shooter who is looking to cut training costs by running a .22 LR conversion or upper is doing so to train more and save money. Dropping $1500 on a dedicated .22 will eat up any cost savings for quite some time, which negates the purpose of the firearm in the first place. Granted, you'll likely have a finely crafted pistol that certainly has some "bling factor", but that will only take you so far. At current ammo prices of roughly $18 per 500 round brick, a $340 GSG 1911 shooter could fire over 83 bricks of ammo with the money it would cost to buy the US Palm .22/ 1911. In case you're wondering, 83 bricks of .22 ammo would contain 41,500 rounds. When it comes right down to it, the Scottsdale Gun Club does not cater to the average, working man type of gun enthusiast. Anyone who has ever walked through their parking lot, or spent 5 minutes inside their retail store will know what I'm talking about. When you see more BMW's, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguars, Audis and other high end imports than Chevy's, Dodges and Fords you can pretty much tell who their target audience really is. |

Oh c'mon... is "lightweight alloy frame" another veiled way of saying "aluminum" like the Umarex and other .22 "cheap" 1911's are made of?
It uses the Marvel top end, so how in the world can a price tag of $1500 be justified? I'd much rather put a Marvel or other .22 top end with a good reputation on one of my 1911 steel framed 1911's and go have some fun at a fraction of the cost. Sorry, I just don't see it. Considering a Marvel top end and a cast or extruded aluminum receiver, I'd would actually start paying attention at around the $450 level or a tad lower. I wish them luck. |

Moot point now since they're gone, but I don't understand the hate. This gun wasn't created for the "Do I buy this OR a 22/45?" crowd. Not even a little bit. No, more like the "I think I'll buy this AND a 22/45" crowd.
I built something quite similar and even though I have a pretty nice 22/45, I can't see one as a replacement for the other. 
Even when simalarilly equipped and shoehorned into the same roles, (in this case, night time rat shooting) they're unique enough to one another that I'm glad I have them both.
