Working up .45 Super loads for my USP45 I was trying out extra power recoil springs. 14# standard springs are no big deal. 16# XP springs are tough but doable but 18# XP springs are damn near impossible . I needed a way to hold the retainer and spring down long enough to get the "c" clip back on. I came up with this, a piece of 1x4 with a 3/8" hole that will slip over the rod and let me hold it all down with one hand against a bench. Attached File I've read where the easiest way is to just install the RSA in the slide without the clip, lock the slide to the rear and install the clip that way. Must have tried it 30 times but with that crazy long 18# spring, just couldn't get it all lined up long enough to lock the RSA to the barrel. This way is much easier IMO and easier on the fingers too. |

I put mine a vise and used a zip tie to hold back the spring to remove the clip. Attached File |
