Has anyone returned a pistol to Tisas/SDS imports for warranty work and how did the experience go? I received an RMA and just boxed up a 1911 Government to send back to have them look at it. I wasn’t expecting much from a $300 gun but not making it through 2 mags without some sort of malfunction was a bit much. I’m def not complaining, really like the gun, just curious how their warranty department is. Can I expect an honest effort at resolving the issue or will I get gaslighted with something along the lines of I must be doing something wrong? TIA! |

What ammo [and bullet type] were you using and how many rounds were thru the gun when you sent it back? What was the most common malfunction? |

I didn't return a pistol but a new PX-9 Carry I bought had a recoil spring assembly that had a slightly warped retention plate. I called their customer service and they connected me to their gunsmith. He looked at some screenshots in realtime and said there was no issue but he was sending me a new one just for my peace of mind. I was impressed. |

All new factory 230gr brass cased fmj. Pick a brand and it’s been through it; WWB, Speer, PMC, CCI, S&B, the list goes on. No hollow points. I intentionally stocked up on a variety of ammo because “the internet says” 1911’s can be finicky with ammo. About 800-1000 rounds before I gave up on it. Most common malfunction was FTF, like almost with every mag or def with every other mag, and the occasional FTE and stovepipe. Once in a while no slide lock on an empty mag. I’ve researched and unless I’m way off base it sounds like it’s an extractor spring issue? Random pic from the last range trip before I said eff it it’s going back. This is one of prolly 4 pics I took before I got tired of taking pics. I think I went through about 150 rounds that day and had a dozen malfunctions at least. Attached File |

In all honesty, I get that it’s a budget firearm, but I shouldn’t have to fiddlefart with it to get it to just run. Fine tuning, tweaking, improving, sure. If it won’t make it through 2 mags without a malfunction that’s a warranty issue I’m not going to mess with, Tisas can tune the extractor. |

Update SDS imports received the pistol on 12-11, and I got an email yesterday that “my warranty claim has been completed” and the firearm will be shipped back via FedEx  and “ In the box will be a work order form from our gunsmiths stating what was done to correct the issue”So far so good, it’s a one week turn around. They even gave me a 10% off coupon for parts and accessories on their website. ETA is the 23rd, and I’m off work from the 24th until the 29th, so hopefully I can make it to the range and see if it’s been resolved Stay tuned. |

Late update if anyone is interested. I got the pistol back from SDS very quickly, maybe only a couple of weeks. The repair ticket is below. I’m not sure if the notes read that they fit and tuned the extractor, or that the extractor was already fit and tuned. Regardless, it’s still a jam-o-matic POS. I shot a GPA match yesterday and still couldn’t get through a magazine without a failure. Same mags and ammo as before, I went through 12 mags for the day IIRC, and not one of them worked. Overall the CS was fine, they just didn’t fix the issue. It was a little irritating that they wouldn’t accept anything but the factory mags back that came with it for the repair. At the end of the day it’s a little annoying but it’s also a $300 pistol and a platform that I understand is notoriously finicky. Will not be buying another 1911, would maybe consider another Tisas Side note, the malfunctions were a nice source of amusement for the squad and myself, and I did get a good laugh after a particularly bad stage rhetorically asking how the hell we won two World Wars with these pieces of shit is beyond me  Attached File |

I have Mec-Gar mags coming out my ears for my CZ and they all run like a top. I really think it’s the gun. |
Out of the blue update that’s really only good to up my post count at this point  Had a guy on a local board fall head over heels in love with all things .45acp and he had a Gen 4 G34 up for sale or trade and I bit. He got the Tisas, 5 Ed Brown 8 round mags, some 230gr ammo, and several disclaimers that it doesn’t run well and has FTF problems. I got a G34 with an unknown round count, a TTI magwell and a +5 mag extension, and some Tupperware. I’m leaning towards dude getting the better end of the deal, but there’s no buyers regret on my end and I do enjoy my Glocks and clones, and it’s just magazine and ammo compatibility with with all my other stuff.
