Back in the mid to late 70’s there was a lot of discussions about using the 1911 for various cartridges.   If you are using the 1911 slide the case head and breach face dictate which cartridges you can use.   If you have a 38 Super slide you use a 9 mm barrel and magazine.   Since 9 mm case head is smaller it fits and the 38 super slide.  The frame mounted ejector normally works with 9 mm.   The 45 ACP slide usually works reliably with the 38 Super barrel and generally the ejector works with the 38 Super.   The 40 S&W/357 Sig usually work in the 45 slide IIRC.   I can’t remember for sure but I think 40 can work with a 38 Super slide.    Changing slides on a 1911 can work but many 9 mm slides use a Ramped 9 mm barrel that doesn’t work the 1911 frame for 45 ACP.   The 45 frame mates up to the beveled barrel on the 45 ACP and the frame is part of the ramp.   The 10 MM is chambered for 1911’s but it might require a 10 M M slide because of higher pressures.   I’ve never read about converting a 1911 to use a 10 mm barrel in a 45 ACP slide.   If the 10 MM or 40/357 barrel is ramped they would not work with a 45 1911 frame.  I suspect the barrel hood interface on a 10 mm barrel is different than a 45 slide.   With the lower price of Tisas pistols I would buy a complete pistol.   All the conversions I have in any caliber morphs into a complete firearm.


I would email or call SDS Imports and check their website as they are selling a lot of 1911 components and things might have change compared to the 1970’s where Colt was the primary 1911.
