I'm really torn on just which model to buy. I thought I wanted a Carry, but I saw someone say that it didn't shoot nearly as nice as the Duty. I mean, will I really carry it more than my P365 Macro? And, I have carried Govt. length 1911s AIWB before. Not the most comfortable, but... And then do I want a standard profile barrel, or bull? I want to be able to use my suppressor on it, I know the Tisas barrels fit easy, but I'd most likely have to have a new threaded bull barrel fitted. Decisions, decisions. |

That thought had crossed my mind! Looking at SDS's site, the next generation will have bull barrels. So, I may just stifle my wish to buy till I can get the new Carry. Now I just need a way to get mags behind enemy lines. This law is so stupid, it's un-enforcable, but it still stops a lot of dealers. They don't want to risk their livelihood. |

Just got the commander size yesterday from Vance. 469+tax. Just put a couple mags through it out back. I'm very happy. Seems accurate enough and shoots very smoothly. I'm fine with the traditional bbl/bushing arrangement. The bushing could be fit tighter to the slide which I may do later. Couple things to work on: Trigger isn't what it could be even though perfectly acceptable from the factory. I'll slick that up. The sharp edges around the grip safety are an issue. I have an old Ed Brown high sweep beaver tail (No longer made or available so far as I know) that I will install. It is almost a 1/4" difference, moving the web of your hand upwards. I've been waiting on one worthy of this part since it's the last one I have. I'm having a hard time not going back to get another at that price. A steal. The grip is rather girthy for a 17 round gun. A g17 is more svelt. A 15rd CZ75 feels like a single stack in comparison. Does anyone know if the prodigy or staccato are slimmer? |

Just large. Like a glock grip feels bad and large. 320 grip feels great IMO, CZ grip feels great. This feels slightly larger. Again, nothing that breaks the deal but it does feel large. |

I have just now dipped my toe into DS plastic (Had an aluminum para ordnance many moons ago) 1911s. I'm reading that the prodigy grip module fits the Tisas, is more svelt, and can be ordered from SA for around 40 bucks. I'm seeing that it may require other, proprietary parts such as the mag catch and possibly the MSH? I'd appreciate any experience from others who've been down this path already. I don't want to dump hundreds in a 470 dollar pistol.  But my high sweep beavertail and a slimmer grip would make this very nice. |

The only work I had to do was opening up the r side of the grip for the mag release; the internals worked fine. Though, since I'd ordered a SA mag release, I used it's spring. The MAC spring was far too stiff. I also had to clean up the trigger rails so that it moved smoothly. All told I probably had, at most, and hour and a half of simple work. I went slowly and checked dimensions often. I ordered the grip module, the empty MSH, and the mag release which wasn't really necessary. Oh; the magwell. It took a bit of hammering to shave off the little amount of plastic necessary for the MAC/Tisas magwell to fit on the module. The pin doesn't line up perfectly, so currently it's not in. But it's still on solid, and I don't want it on if I carry concealed, so perhaps a win/win. Attached File |

I have a 1911 with an Ed Brown high sweep beaver tail (no longer available) that is filed all the way up into the thumb safety. It feels great in the hand and has been commented on by most who get to shoot it. A plain steel 1911 isn't 18 shots. I love 1911s. Always have. Owned a bunch. Still do own a few favorites. But for 470 bucks for a baseline, these are solid. Easy enough to accurize a bit. The bbl bushing is pretty loose which will be a big improvement. A longer link may be in order. Selling a Colt commander to get one? Nah, that would be a no for me. |

Last year I bought a Tisas Tank Commander and am very pleased with it. 20 years ago I had a .45 ACP STI 2011 built by the USAMU gunsmiths at Fort Benning. It took almost 20 years to get it to run correctly -- fixed with a lot of ramp polishing and new magazines. Staccato came along and the 9mm 2011 seems to be the new hotness for law enforcement -- which means many shooters want them as well. I am a poor so decided to build one once an economical alternative rolled around. The Tisas Double Stack Carry seems to fill the bill. I bought a used one from Fuquay Guns in North Carolina through gunborker for $549. It came with a single Checkmate magazine. I bought five new black Mec-Gar 2011 magazines from Greg Cote. I imagine these will work for professionals who don't want the bright-polished stainless Checkmates or Staccatos, plus they carry 18. I have small hands. I thought the grip felt fat so swapped it out with an STI Gen 1 I reduced and stippled myself (it was a simple drop-in -- no filing or fitting required). When I take a two-hand thumbs forward grip I don't like big paddles nor ambi safeties so yanked it out and replaced it with an EGW retro GI safety. I replaced the factory trigger with a short Lippert X-Trigger. The trigger break was clean but heavy so I yanked the sear and replaced it with a lightly stoned Cylinder and Slide or Extreme Engineering from my parts box and tuned the sear spring. I have 300 rounds down the tube in its first range session with one stoppage (a loaded round stove-pipe) shooting a mix of 115 and 124 Ball, M1152 military flat-point +P, and handloads using 124-grain Rocky Mountain Reloading Mini-Nukes I feel I loaded too short (and have since fixed). It's not a favorite pistol but it's growing on me. I may install a threaded barrel and a ZR two-port compensator for giggles. Attached File Attached File |

Does anyone make a Level 2 holster for the double stacks? Currently running an alien gear holster which I like quite a bit. They don't make one for the double stacks. Alternatively does anyone make a Level 1 that can attach to the QD dropleg on the alien gear? I'm terrible with the terminology but it looks like a triangle sort of locking wedge. . Has anyone had a problem with Prodigy mags not working correctly? The three Prodigy mags I have will all lock the slide open with one round remaining in the magazine. In comparing them to the Tisas/ Checkmate mags, the Springfield mags have a flat shelf on the follower that is visibly closer to the top of the mag than the Tisas, and is forcing the slide stop up and locking the slide back with a round left in the magazine. I will swap followers later today and see if it really is just the follower, and I e mailed Checkmate to see if they will sell me some spare followers to hopefully fix my other mags, but was curious if anyone else had run into this. Thanks! |

I finally pulled the trigger and snagged one of these. PSA had them on sale and in a color combo that piqued my interest, ha. I didn't even clean it first, just went right out to the desert. Fired about 200 rounds right after popping on a red dot. Not a single malfunction. Smoothest shooting pistol I've shot in a long time. Unfortunately it only came with one mag but was an 18 round Mec Gar mag. Already ordered more from the Mag Shack since they are on sale too. I was surprised to see that it came with a flared magwell. That was not in the listing but it was a nice surprise. Initial photos to me looked green. But in person, it is more absolutely brown to my eyes. I'm definitely digging it even more now.
