Decided to finally add a Beretta to the herd. I picked up an M9A4 earlier this week. The first thing i do when i get a new handgun is field strip it and make sure it is clean and lubed. I seem to be having an issue when attempting to remove the slide and barrel assembly from the frame. After rotating the takedown lever down, the slide does jump forward as it should. However, it is VERY difficult to pull the slide off the frame. It seems to be binding up and after lubing it and trying again, it looks like it might be here: Attached File This is my first Beretta so I'm not entirely sure if this is where the issue is. When not taking it apart, racking the slide is nice and smooth so it is obviously as the slide is coming forward during disassembly Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks |

Mine easily glides off... But the outer trigger bar had a mild rub inside the oem grips, and my LOK palm swell grips required bit of dremel clearance since those hung up the action with their firmer fit. And my .22 upper required bit of stoning when the release 'half moon' pivot hung up about half way in the rotation. A bit of sharpie dykem showed what was needed. Runs great, best wishes on yours. |

Chances are it's snagging in the locking block area of the frame. It will probably smooth out, but at the cost of some anodizing scraping off. That part of the slide is a normal wear location. The trigger bar tab runs along that surface with every shot so you will see wear there but it is normal. |

Assuming you removed the magazine. Even with a magazine in the weapon a M9/A1/3/4 can still be disassembled. There should be nothing along that track that binds. Here is mine, well used. What wear you see is from the hammer dragging as it cycles while firing. Of note, all 4 of my M9s will launch the slide off the frame if the slide is retracted, the take down lever lowered and holding it over a soft landing surface the slide release is pushed down…..there is no binding to slow them down…..if the magazine is out. Shoot it. If it runs, which I suspect it will, that area with break in and in a while takedown won’t be an issue. Unfortunately in todays world of quality control, rough binding spots on new guns is very common. As long as it functions reliably in actual shooting, it will settle in. |
