The new Osight SE (Page 1 of 4)

Osight released a new version of the Osight S, called the Osight SE for those that do not want rechargeable sights.  I have been testing a preproduction model for roughly a month and I am quite pleased with it.  I think it is a great alternative to a Holosun EPS Carry.

The Osight S hasn't been shown to be fragile in the drop tests I've seen. The original Osight and Osight X do tend to break windows when dropped on their hood, but so do the Trijicon SRO and Holosun 507COMP.  Large window competition oriented sights don't generally have enough meat around the glass to protect them from breaking because thin bezels are desirable in competition shooting.

Yeah....  Right now there are 4 and I know there are more coming.  I hope it doesn't get overly confusing.

I purchased two of the Osight S. I've been shooting and beating the shit out of them. I've had zero problems.

Only problems I see are short battery life when running the circle dot together and no lock out.

It takes 30 minutes to recharge the battery. Its not a big issue. In two months of carrying AIWB I have bumped the button once. Which turned my dot down. Noticed it when wiping the gun down. I wipe my gun down daily.

If Osight continues on this path. They will dominate the market. At their price point they will crush Holosun.

I love Holosun. I own a half dozen of their optics. But Osight is going to really hurt them.

Everything you get from Osight screams quality. From the optic, box, screws, the chart showing you exactly what screws to use on 100 plus guns.

They really have their shit together.

I see that the new one has a side loading battery instead of that goofy charging hood. Seems like a step in the right direction. I'm not a fan of their propriatary batteries and chargers for their handhelds. I gave up after I sent my warrior mini back for a refund during the recall. I dont mind the i3e and i3t lights, but I'm not going to buy another bigger light from them till they start using normal 18650's like everyone else. Usb-c would also be nice. I'm not the only one than thinks this. Not a fan of most of their UIs either.

They are going to be bringing out more sizes of sights that are going to have either a rechargeable option or a disposable cell option.  While I have never had any problems with my Olights that use the 21700 cell, I do have a massive stockpile of 18650's and I have been harping on them (through what little influence I can assert as a beta tester) about supporting them in more lights. The Odin S weapon light was designed to be able to use a standard 18650, and with a sleeve 2xCR123a cells. They also fixed the flimsy screwed-on QD mounting lug and it is now integral to the body.   It is the best of the Odin series IMO and my test model lives on my nightstand rifle.

Many of their new lights are incorporating USB-C, so expect to see a lot of that in the future.

Options are great, but I dont get the hate for the charging cover.
Im looking at getting one for that sole reason.

The ability to slap it on to charge your edc on the bedside table is awesome. If it holds up, whats not to like?

So from reading any of the 3 models manuals, it seems that none of them have shake awake or a lockout feature. Is that correct?  I'd be semi interested in the new SE model with the side load battery, but lacking those 2 features are a hard no for me.

Nothing like being in the middle of a stage and realizing that you forgot to engage the lockout function when you rack the slide and inadvertently turn your optic off

They have shake awake (they call it Motion) but no button lockout. I'm coming up on 3 months of AIWB. I've hit the button once and turned my dot down. The buttons are almost flush with the optic body. Laying it on a table won't depress the buttons.

Screw it, I just ordered one.

Doubt it will replace my Holosuns, but maybe my Shield SMSC?

Gotta love Amazon. Suppose to be delivered between 5-10pm TODAY.

I personally think that the S is the way to go. I like never having to worry about changing a battery, and that I can check battery level instantly by pressing a button.  I get that a lot of people don't trust that, and I don't blame them, so Osight is working to please everyone that they can.

I will say I am pleasantly surprised with this optic. The sight seems well built and well thought out. Even the packaging was well done. I may pick up the SE version now too.

Only gripe is the buttons dont lock out, but the holster for my p365xl will cover the controls, but that has the 507k on it and I plan on keeping it that way. I was going to replace the Shield on the Hellcat with this but that holster would not cover the controls.

Its a tad wider than my 507Ks and Shield SMSC, but not too crazy. Weight is about the same as the open emitter 507k.

I ordered the SE version when it popped up on Amazon yesterday evening.  I don't have a specific preference for either the rechargeable version or battery powered version.  The OSights have a neat combination of features for the price point.  However, they are not what I would consider for "serious use" at this time.  Perhaps time and experience will show them to be so, but for me they are not there yet.  So, I don't care which version I get.  I got the SE because it was cheaper.  I'll use them on range/practice and match guns.  Frees up the more expensive and more proven stuff for defense guns.  If the SE proves reliable I will probably buy more, I always seem to have something that needs an optic.

The original Osight and Osight X have lockout so I am not sure why they didn't include it in the S/SE.  The only thing I can think of is customers returning what they thought was a malfunctioning sight.

If you use gun.deals and do some searching you can find the S for $155. I ordered one a couple of days ago from Battlehawk and it looks like it is drop shipping from Osight.  Their shipping is a bit ridiculous, but it is still cheaper than buying direct from Osight.

Just got mine in yesterday and mounted on my Sig P322. Hoping to get out on the range over the weekend. First impressions:

- Externally very comparable to the Holosun EPS Carry
- I suffer from astigmatism so all pistol optics look starry to me and this one is no different. I would rank it slightly better than my 507k though in terms of clarity
- Packing is very compact and nice; the included tool and plastic boxes to organize the spare screws that can be unclasped is a very nice touch!

Got my new SE this weekend. Generally same size as my EPS Carry. There are some slight size differences though. The base of the SE sits slightly lower (thinner base) and the integrated rear sight sits taller than the EPS Carry's.

The window on the SE is bigger (slightly larger/taller) AND the black outline or edges of the SE are slightly thinner, for a cleaner sight picture from the shooter's perspective. Not obvious but side by side it's noticeable. Also the SE has curved corners on the top vs the EPS Carry with more squared corners.

The buttons on the EPS Carry are higher on the side AND larger. Big win for the Holosun. Otherwise, the SE is winning thus far IMO. Haven't done anything else with it.

Don't think I'll miss the auto brightness of the Holosun.

It's really nice to see another company copying Holosun though.

Agree with all points especially this one. I'll add that I'm not a fan of having to press the plus and minus buttons simultaneously for a few seconds to power off the optic so I give that point to Holosun too. But after one range trip, I have to say, I have nothing negative else to say about it. Assuming it holds zero, I think Olight has a winner on their hands with this one. They should think of renaming the thing and adding more colors to the lineup.

I tried an Osight enclosed emitter optic on a Canik on Thursday.  It was on the pistol of the guy shooting next to me so I don'tknow the exact model.  He needed help sighting in several pistol optics.  I was not a fan of the Osight at all.  It had terrible edge distortion and obvious magnification.  Back to back with my EPS and EPS carry and there was no comparison.  The EPS was light-years ahead.

*Edit to add that I just went to the Osight website and it was definitely an SE.  It had the circle dot reticle and the side battery tray.

Not my impression either. Very clear glass, No magnification or distortion for me, even around the edges. I also checked to be sure the circle reticle is emitting a horizontal/ vertical reticle. Looks good. Unless all the windows and door frames in my house are all jacked lol.

Just checked the auto shut off. I sat it down and typed this post. Went back and the auto shoot off did it's thing. Picked it up and the reticle lit up. Prolly will remove my Vortex Def CCW and replace with this on my G26.5. My EPS Carry is currently on a milled 1911 9mm slide, Will likely do some swapping to get my fav on the G26.5 since it's in the carry rotation.

eta- with all the good things I have to say about the SE, the larger/higher placed EPS Carry's buttons make a huge difference IMO. At 2x the price, not as much.

I don't think what you saw was a Osight. I have two S models. Zero magnification and zero distortion on my models. The glass is even clear than my Holosuns.

I also own one EPS and two EPS carrys. They are not light years ahead of the Osight S. So much so, I have removed my Holosuns (which I love) and installed my S models on both my EDC guns. That's how much I trust them now.

Osight is going to hurt Holosun. I love Holosun. They make a great products. But Osight, is in it to win it.

Really doubt it. Holosun is -the- premier import optic brand for pistol sights and the competition (import competition) isn't even close. Vortex is probably (and by probably I mean guaranteed) doing way more than O Light with their imported Defender line by leaps and bounds.

Doesn't help that O Lights rep in the flashlight game is AIDS.

Your just wrong. It's that simple. Osight has a solid winner. Until you put sometime on a Osight I would hold your judgement.

I own Trijicons, Holosuns, Doctors, Shields and now 2 Osights. They have a solid winner end of story. I'm not impressed by what Vortex makes for pistol dots. There is nothing new there.

Easy man. I came across harsh. That was not my intent.

I own a half dozen Holosuns. All my long guns have Holosuns. They will not be coming off. I also own Aimpoint T1s. The Holosuns will stay on over the Aimpoints.

Holosun will not be able to sell pistol optics for 200 bucks. The Osight matches the Holosuns with one exception. Osight does not have button lockout. Osight also has much clearer glass.

They will hurt Holosun, Vortex and all the pistol optic makers. I've already stopped buying them. Its only a matter of time before people figure out the value Osight brings to the table.

Your argument simply doesn’t work and it has been proven time and time again in virtually every market on the planet.
Just because someone makes something cheaper, doesn’t automatically make it outsell the competition.

Why does Trijicon and Aimpoint keep selling thousands and thousands of optics per year at 2-3X the price of Holosun? Brand recognition and a name that everyone has come to know reflects quality and longevity. Plain and simple.
Sorry, but O Light as a brand in the firearm community generally reflects the exact opposite of quality and longevity.
Maybe they’ll overcome that brand association at some point, but not in the near to mid future. Reputations and public perception take years and years to change and unfortunately theirs isn’t the greatest in the game for both optics and weapon lights.

I hear what you are saying. I just post a sticky note on my computer. A year from now I'll start a poll. We'll see how much market share they have taken.

No one is going to beat a fully enclosed EPS Carry style optic for 170.00 shipped.

Let me introduce you to the Osight SE.

I think that's the factor most folks are missing. Even other budget optics like Gideon, Swamp Fox, Cyelee, etc. can barely muster an enclosed optic for around $270-300 (if at all). I bought a Gideon Valor Mini not long ago to see how it would stack up to the EPS Carry. While also comparable, it still wasn't that much cheaper at $260 shipped (with discount code). Assuming this Olight SE holds up to the abuse, at $170.. is an absolute steal.

I was an early adopter of the Holosun 403A in 2013 and the 'professional' reviews of it were very harsh at the time. Now fast forward to 2025 and Holosun practically has cornered the budget yet quality market with rifle AND pistol optics. They listened to customer feedback and evolved. There's nothing stopping Olight from achieving the same success and maybe even at a faster rate than Holosun. I wouldn't be quick to write off Olight just yet.

I never said O Light couldn’t make a name for themselves eventually. You literally just referred to a gap of time over a decade for Holosun.
It will take O Light years and years too, if they can overcome their poor reputation at all.

I think too many of you think that what a hand full of you think and are buying on the internet represents what the market as a whole is doing, and that is far from accurate.

For the vast majority of shooters, the O Light could be $100 and we’re still not buying it over Trijicon, Aimpoint, or the other big import optics like Holosun or Vortex Defender line. They’re not perceived as being on that level and they certainly don’t have the long term track record that any of those companies have.

I agree its a steal. I was going to buy a Gideon to try out. But Osight came out at 200. 60 bucks cheaper then Gideon.  I said what the hell give it a shot.

I was really surprised. It really is a 9/10 optic. The S model has grown on me. Now they have the SE. If they come out with a lockout mode that's it. There is no reason to purchase anything else unless you what something duty rated.

Both my S models sit on 43x guns. I have not been able to kill them yet.

Still havent mounted mine yet.
The dot looks to overhang the slide sides too much on both the Sig and the Hellcat I own, which concerns me without a lockout. Probably not an issue, but It does bug me.

I may save the Osight for when I get my g19 milled.

I was debating on a red dot for my TX22 gen 2 ever since it came back from the barrel replacement. Was really debating the Cyelee CAT0 as people seem to love it. It has an extended shroud to protect the window, top mounted battery, etc etc etc and it is on sale. But the webpage then showed the Osight SE as recommended best seller. Didn't know Osight came out with a SE as I am not a Olight fan so i ignore most of their stuff. I didnt like the charge cover thing so i just ignored everything about the Osight. I did see that they are both made out of 7075, but the Cyelee is the only one that claims 7075-T6.

Has anyone mounted it on a one of the Gen 2 TX22 yet? Was honestly curious about the overhang, but also if it would be too heavy for it to cycle reliably with CCI standard velocity. I have astigmatism, so red dots and I aren't the best of friends but i can make them work. So multi-reticle also doesn't mean much to me. Just will use the dot alone. I was figuring if i do ever go back to the farm the TX22 with a red dot and suppressor will fill a lot of roles that my Marlin bolt action did but be easier to carry.

It's your funeral

But seriously, I'm actually hoping they have taken the feedback from their original optic and have made this a quality product.  It would go a long way to remove the stink from their name from their lights over the years (my main issue is their early marketing style, plus the dead guy didn't help).

Yeah, their early marketing is what turned me off from them. A lot of their lights are ugly as hell and look like mall ninja shit. But it does seem like they learned with this one. I did find out it is actually 7075-T6, so that is good. Figured they would have cheapen out and did 7075-T0. Probably explains why it keeps taking a beating in the videos. That and no void in the top for the magnetic charging seems to help with the strength. I can already tell my astigmatism and cross eye dominance is going to be fun with this. Never used a pistol dot, but i do have a a Holosun 407c waiting to be mounted on something more serious like a Ruger RXM or M&P9. If i even like using a dot.

Just ordered one of the SE models off Amazon for $159.  Delivery tomorrow morning between 0400 and 0800. May put it on my EDC Shield Plus and sight it in this weekend (won't put it on till I'm ready to sight it in.)

Funny, same time for mine. it was either that or next Friday, weird.

Do me a favor. When you get it mounted up, see if you can notice a faint oval in the front glass. I noticed in when pointing towards a bright object. I found i can see it really well when cant my gun close to 45 degrees or looking at it from the front. I don't know if it supposed to be like that or i got a defective one. Would be my luck to get a defective one. Everything gun related recently has been for me.

You know they weren't found guilty for the dead guy, right?   All they were guilty of is not stressing enough how dangerous lithium CR123a cells are, and that mixing cells may result in an explosion.

They're still a trinket company that makes collectable flashlights with terrible proprietary batteries and charging systems.  Take a look during the next Osale at whatever fidget toy that is put in the member redemption zone, then go on aliexpress and find it for 75% less

Yeah I don’t know why this reality is such a tough thing to accept.
O Light is never going to be a serious name in the weapon light or weapon optic game.
Not without a lot of time and some serious work in their brand image.

They are a Chinese company with headquarters in China that employs Chinese citizens.  China does some pretty quirky things, and that comes through in a lot of what Olight does.

David Chow is running Osight headquarters in Arizona, where their design studio is.   I've known David for over 20 years; we were both very active on CandlePowerForums back in the day, and I used to test flashlight output and runtime in my integrating sphere for him.  He used to own Fenix Store, and the lighting brand FourSevens (which is how he developed a relationship with Olight, where he became chairman of the board) before he sold it to Prometheus lights.  He is a very smart, driven man and he will push Osight forward.  I trust him and I trust his vision and attention to detail.
