There is nothing wrong with a well done Glock clone, but also nothing really exciting either. Modular might allow a grip module with a regular grip angle that takes P320 mags. A well executed manual safety option would be interesting, and set it apart from every other Glock clone. |
|
@HenryKnoxFineBooks Interesting. Can Ruger save enough by casting the slide to beat PSA Dagger pricing? A Glock clone that can use any mag by swapping the grip frame would be interesting for the right price. This explains why they're discontinuing the American, which was a fairly well thought out pistol that flopped. |

If it is modular, and compatible with Glock 19 gen 3 stuff, it should be a hit, or at least fit well into the ecosystem. Sig already has the lions share with the p365 and 320 less so. I'd love to see the option for an manual thumb safety build into the FCU, as it is done in the p365. |

Why…? Why buy, trust, carry, shoot a Glock that isn’t made by Glock..? I’ve never seen one that is better than original. Some equal maybe but most less than to one degree or another. It’s like the Magpul Glock mags… save $2 and get a mag that is not as reliable. Don’t get it. |

The trigger, connector, slide release, mag release, springs, all the slide parts, and the mags will be compatible with Glock 19 gen 3 stuff. Pretty much the only thing that's not standard Glock is the locking block. |

Of course that doesn't necessarily mean anything yet since different length/color/shape grip modules aren't available yet. Price is supposed to be in the at or slightly under $400 so that's going to be a pretty good motivator right there. Aside from that, the gun doesn't have the finger grooves or arched back strap that lots of people don't like. It also has a slightly extended beavertail to help prevent side bite. And then the mag well area is flared somewhat like what Glock is doing with Gen 5 stuff. The slide is optic ready and is drilled to direct accept several different foot prints. Aaron Cowan will need to do some drop tests before we really know what Ruger's got going on here but it isn't like the MOS is a great mounting option. Even Glock admits that. Taller (metal) sights come standard. They're a good size and should work with most optics yet aren't so tall they look ridiculous and will work fine without an optic. The tritium front is a nice touch. Gen 3 parts are easy to come by so even if Ruger or Magpul doesn't immediately support the gun there shouldn't be too much difficulty putting in a Timney trigger, etc. Will it be "better" than a Gen 3 Glock 19? It is pretty hard to quantify what that means. But if this new gun is reliable and durable and costs $100 less, it certainly won't be "worse." |

The gray color indicates that this is going to be marketed as a commercial/civilian product and is not something that will be marketed for department or LE sales. At least not right away. Stuff that's kind of a head scratcher. Why go with the gen 1-3 mag release? The gen 4 is reversible and would probably be preferred by most potential customers. Also why use the Glock spec groove for lights? 1913 would have been a better choice. I'm not sure about the tiny optic pin / recoil bosses. They don't look very robust. One point to consider also is that the Holosun K optics need the thin little adapter plate to work. The recoil pins are a little too big to fit the female recesses in the bottom of these optics. That's probably not a big deal. |

Other than that, a number of older P series guns saw some police service with larger agencies. But the SR series and American series were absolute flops for LE. No one touched them. Maybe this gun will change that although a gen 5 sort of gun would be more appealing to that market. Again, I'm not sure why they did a gen 3 mag catch. If 90% of the gun is parts compatible would anyone care if that dropped to 89%? If nothing else it would help 5% of the population with reloads. The glock size slot is probably just an oversight. But somebody should have caught that before the frames went into full production. |

I doubt that'll happen. Heck, I doubt we'll see .45 ACP.

No thanks. Yep. Hardcore Glock fans will see this as a cheap knockoff no matter how well it might be executed. What's cool about modularity is you can use it or not. There's no obligation to change stuff if you don't want to. |

The .45 ACP FCU could work with 9mm (to a degree), but the 9mm FCU wouldn't work with .45 ACP. Ruger would have to make a specific FCU chassis to fit .45 ACP and I don't see them doing it since .45 ACP is dropping in popularity. |

Ruger would have to make a specific FCU for .45 ACP & 10x23mm Norma - which is gaining in popularity. And they already have the carbine that takes Glock mags in 10mm & .45. I would be sad to send you a .45 ACP Glock mag in January 2027, but you would be delighted to send me one anytime in the next two years. |

One thing about this platform is the ability to change grip frames. Just for the modification/stippling crowd. That way if you screw one up or just like different ones, $39 a pop for a new lower grip to modify does sound like fun. And these should be easy to make on a 3D printer. I would use Glock factory mags IMHO. |
