Been a long time follower of this thread even though I've hardly posted. I just added a bunch of parts to my Springfield Mil-Spec. It's not a strict copy but just a tribute that I think captures the same style. Nevertheless, I did add some cool and discontinued parts. I just gotta upgrade the sights. I'm leaning towards just adding a Harrison retro rear and calling it a day. Other options are the full MEU SOC front/rear sight set from KC Customs or a King Tappan sight set.

Springfield uses a .220" tang cut. .250" is kind of the industry standard. The original MEU(SOC)s were cut for a Caspian/Wilson to match the Clark grip safety, which uses compound angles rather than just a radius. Today, you can get Caspians with the GI tang, which can be cut down to any, a .250", or a Caspian/Wilson. |

It's a big Marine Corps, and I won't pretend to know definitively, but the only Caspians I saw were the shooting teams'. I heard some were built as a stopgap when the PWS built pistols in the style of the ICQB to boost numbers after Det 1 stood up, but I have forgotten the details, right now. I never saw an old MEU(SOC) with anything but a GI frame, and never heard a 2112 mention building one. That doesn't mean it never happened, though. I overlapped the last team deployed with the PWS-built M45s and first with the Colt M45A1 in Afghanistan. The one, with a mix of some new and some old parts, was built on a Remington Rand frame. Pictured with an American Pride Black Tac holster provided to the team by care package from O'Rourke Leather. It was made for a Taurus railed 1911 so that it could take the M45A1's full-width Picatinny rail that was being phased in.

On the background of this photo showing a genuine MEUSOC pistol w/ Caspian frame & Springfield slide (MARSOC book) Photo below is from USMC technical manual that has illustrated Caspian slide/frame 1911. Even thought the manufacturer name address marking was removed in the publication, there are distinct Caspian features showing on the slide and frame. Caspian frame have very good frame tang fitment with Ed Brown grip safety, but the A1 finger cutout is pretty shallow compare to others. Although manual indicated that is designated as M45, but you can see it still sports King's ambi that was used in the earlier MEUSOC pistol evolution.  |

Hey guys. I have not been in this forum for years. I was very active about 7 years ago when I had a MEUSOC and a couple of M45’s built by a friend at PWS and was collecting all the parts. You can see a bunch of my pictures and postings earlier in the thread although I think I may have to update the picture hosting. That was back in the timeframe when Detective Hobbs was shot and killed in the line of duty. I was helping him with his build and he was a very active member on this forum. Through the help and generosity of members on this forum, we completed DET Hobbs MEUSOC build and presented his MEUSOC and Kimber DET1 to his family in a display. At the time I also worked with my 2112 buddy at PWS to have some rear sights made that he sold to those AR15 members who wanted them. There were no rear sights anywhere. I don't remember how many, but it was around 100 that were made. I forgot I had an extra one and just came across it going through some stuff. I have no use for it, I thought I was going to build another MEUSOC but I never will. I listed it on eBay if you want to find it. I hope everyone is doing well and progressing with their builds. @LongTrang As a heads up, although the book is not bad to have, I believe that might be the only M45 photo in it. Just wanted to temper expectations. Although it showed up earlier in the thread, I feel it might be good to repost this from KC Crawford’s site. It outlines the changes along the development of the MEU(SOC) and later M45 with feedback from multiple other 2112s. https://kcskustomcreations.com/meu-soc-variations-and-price-list/ He also happens to sell really good quality reproduction parts and he does full builds (I don’t own one, but I’ve never really seen anything but compliments about his work). From what I recall, the latest gen (after serviceable GI receivers were few and far between) used Caspian Modern Receivers in carbon steel and integral plunger tubes. I also believe that PWS ordered them pre-cut for the .250 radius Ed brown. The M45s had MC### serial frames, and I think the shooting team guns also had unique frame prefixes. |
