I keep seeing this gun pop up while searching the net. I'm looking for a nice holster for a 229 legacy and a lot of the drop downs list 229/ M18. From the searching I did, it seems to be like a 229 but smaller. I also only see it in 9mm. Is this true, no 40sw? Also, do I need one? |

The M18 is the military designation for the P320 "Carry" configuration. It's not smaller than a P229, they're fairly close overall but different models so holster cross compatibility will be hit or miss depending on the holster design. https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/sig-sauer-p320-m18-vs-sig-sauer-p229-nitron-compact And yes, only 9mm, since it's the military model and that's what they use. |

There is a P229 M11-A1 that is slightly different that the standard P229 as it comes without the rail. There is also the P226 Mk25. The P226 platform is slight longer than the P229. The M18 is a P320 based model. |

The P228 was originally the compact alternative to the P226. The P229 came after and just took the 228 and beefed up the slide and the frame a bit so it could be chambered in .40 and .357 Sig. Then over time, they discontinued the P228, redesigned the P229 a few times and started offering that in 9mm as well. Then after even more time, they brought back a "retro" P228 model named the M11a1, because that was the old Navy designation for it, but for the most part it's just a P229 that looks a bit more like the old 228. So not sure what you saw exactly, either an older P228 model from Germany, or a new production M11a1 inspired model. |

Thank you, all. Yes, many of the holster drop down menus list 228/229. I have a 229 no rail with what I believe is a legacy slide (the serrations don't cover the entire height of the slide). Just trying to make sure I pick the appropriate holster. It's new to me in .40, so I don't mind the size, but a slimmer 228 in 9mm sounds like it would be great. |
