I like 1911s. I cut my teeth on a 1911 when I was a MP. Ive carried a 1911; but I moved to other guns (Glocks CZs etc), then I picked up a Commander in 9mm and I was in lust; but the lust turned into wanting more and I learned about Staccatos and 2011s.... Ive been thinking that I want a Commander size, hi cap 1911 in 9mm for carry. Id probably add a red dot sooner than later and carry at least one spare mag. This would be strictly for daily carry I dont play gun games. Any 2011 guys out there? Do you carry them? |

Sorry, don't own a 2011. Love my Kimber Custom II, 1911. Shoots great, not a good carry gun. But, this should be in the Handgun Forum. https://www.ar15.com/forums/handguns/ |

There aren't a ton of small and proven 2011s geared towards carry, and they're still comparatively bulky For what you're describing, something like the Wilson EDCX9 is probably worth looking at Some others for thought - Springfield, Bul Armory, and Girsan all make different short 2011s depending on your budget |

As for carry size, Ive never felt a Glock 17 was too big; but I suppose a Glock 19 is better. When I carried a 1911, a Commander seemed about perfect. I have a pair of Officer model size guns that carry great in a double shoulder rig; but they seem too small for belt carry to me. So im guessing a double stack 9mm commander wont be too bad in weight or size |

During most of the year, my Glock 43x is a better tool for concealed carry. |

Would something this size, 15 rds, drop the grip safe of a 1911, add an exposed hammer and slightly bigger thumb safety sell ? Attached File |

AMAZING thanks Ive never had trouble concealing G17/1911 size guns. I was taught by old timers that you dress for your gun. I used to take my gun and gear when I know Ill be trying on clothes. When I was a detective I had a suit fitted wearing body armor. Even now that Im retired I still dress for the gun. I find a shoulder holster works great for warm weather carry over a T shirt under an open button down shirt. Being honest I do have a PPK and a shoulder holster because you never know when you need to wear a Tuxedo |

Attached File I believe they also make the 15 round frame with 3.25 slide. As for the OP, I'd start with the SA Prodigy w/4.25" barrel and see how you like it. You can always upgrade the parts down the road if you want. If you want to spend more money, the Stacatto C2 is an excellent option. Attached File |

Rabbit hole. There's a plethora of sub $3000 2011 offerings that hit the market in the last couple years. Ultimately Staccato is still likely the way to enter the game. Don't bother with Prodigy, Kimber, Sig or GP IMO. Staccato P CS still the Glock 17 of 2011's. |
|
I have two 2011's...if that's what you want to call them. A 5" Springfield Prodigy, and a 5" Tisas DS. I like shooting them more than my regular.45acp 1911's. Less recoil, more capacity, and a wider grip for my big hands. Something about 21rnds of 9mm in a 1911 platform is just cool....makes 8rnds of .45acp seem boring. Definitely not as easy to carry though. |

I’ve been seeing a bunch of the Springfield Package guns for sale. Comes with a dot and extra mags and a range bag. Seems like a pretty solid deal. I’m sure the dot is low end but the price seemed good just for the gun and mags. Like this. Don’t know if that’s the best price. https://www.kygunco.com/product/springfield-armory-prodigy-9mm-4.25-20rd-black |

It's got quite the following. If it were DA/SA it would be the hottest thing on the market from what I see/hear. |

It will show you the cheapest prices and historical pricing. $1134.99 is the lowest btw. |
I really like my overpriced Staccato's , I mean as a 1911 guy, how could you not like 2011's.That said, I wouldn't carry them when my 4" shield plus holds 15 +1 with a dot and is a shit ton lighter. You can find a used Staccato C2 fairly cheap and avoid their instagram tax for new. Or role with a Prodigy. |

2011’s are awesome. Be careful. There are many things with the 1911 design that are less than agreeable to the current demand for perfection in reliability. First, there is not a common set of dimensions that yields perfect function without fitting. There is also not an easily made perfect extractor shape. Last, the feed path is extremely critical to feeding long rounds at specific timings to be reliable. Wear in springs and that goes south quick. Last, 2011’s add a magazine component to this struggle. That said, a good one is super cool. I want one, but not willing to drop $3000 for one. |

I am a big fan of 2011's but honestly dont think they are the right tool for carry just based on their larger footprint even in commander trim. Also going with a lightweight option kind of mitigate what makes the 2011 such a very nice pistol to shoot. I think stuff like the Staccatto P4 shoots very nice for the size of the pistol but is a little price for a carry pistol. Blue Label price does make P4 a little more interesting. i think a more interesting approach would be any of the modular striker fired options and dropping it 1911 stye grip module. for about 1/3 the buy in price of something like a P4 at retail. |

That. 3.5 inch 1911s are the least reliable of the bunch, plus these are bulky and expensive. Not a combination that makes sense to me for carry. |

It's a weird mismatch and not in a good way. I bought a 365 because I have been carrying a full size gun for a long time and I just wanted something lighter smaller with a decent capacity. |

Well I took the plunge into the kiddy pool....I picked up a lightly used Tisas Br9 DS for half of retail. The guy selling it bought it because like me he wanted to give 201s a try and now wanted to step up. I was pretty close to jumping on a Platypus but figured $550 was a good for testing the water. If I like it, I'll step up but I just didnt want to jump in to the deep end with something $1500 plus |

Just adding another mag standard into the ecosystem is holding me back. I have become obssesed with the 1911 platform over the last 3-4 years. Imo the dwx is problably one of the best double stacks. Its thin, lightweight, trigger is superb. If you get one just make sure you loctite the screws on the rear sight. Its so accurate I dont even want to add a red dot. For a carry gun its perfect. I dont think they get the credit they deserve. It took them to long to role them out and the aftermarket isn’t the same as some other platforms. It definitely serves its purpose for me. It points so straight, so essy to get on target. |

The DWX is the perfect marriage of 2011 and CZ, blending the best of both while dropping the worst of both. I loved the full sized one enough that I bought the compact too. My DWX compact was having occasional failures to extract, 1 in 50 or so. I traced it to a light recoil spring. It was ejecting cases about 20 feet. The extractor spring appeared to have sufficient tension. I cut down a 1911 recoil spring to match the coil count, the wire was about .005” thicker. The problem hasn’t recurred since, but if it did I was going to source a stronger extractor spring. Definitely do Loctite the rear sight set screws too, they will back out. |

I actually had the same problem. They went too light with the stock spring 11lIb. I bought a 12,13, and 14 pound flate wire recoil spring from egw. 13 felt the best, 12 did work. I also changed the extractor spring to a wolf hd tanfolio. I was told to clip one coil and it worked perfect. |

, I mean as a 1911 guy, how could you not like 2011's.
