I’m intrigued by these Colt CCO’s in 9mm particularly. Do any of you gentlemen have any hands on experience with one? I’ve always been leery of Officer sized 1911’s and am not impressed with Colts recent QC. These being a bit higher end as far as Colts go I’m hoping the fit is somewhat more refined than the “entry level” offerings. Below is the model in question: SKU - O9842CCU Colts page |

I’m not gonna talk anyone out of a new gun. My colt Clapp .45 has not disappointed but that’s a commander size. Only experience with an officer size was a springer RO compact. It was good, but I didn’t warm up to the short grip. I think Springfield was on the right track with the EMP in 9. Shrunk the gun to the 9mm. |

I have a DW Valkyrie CCO in 9mm. Absolutely love the thing. I also have a Nighthawk, but it’s a full steel gun in .45. Too heavy to carry everyday, but a real joy to shoot. I have been tempted by this one, but am leery of Colts QC also. https://www.colt.com/detail-page/lightweight-officers-model/ |

I’ve heard a lot of smack talk on colt QC, my example of one has been gtg. Reliable, accurate and everything just works. Safety is not mushy, trigger is decent. Maybe I got lucky. Attached File Idk, I shoot any 1911 I can. Maybe it is luck. I have not played in the 9mm single stack pool yet. But I go in the deep end of the .45 pool. Here we have a colt clapp, Baer and two springers. I just wanted to like the officer size RO, but I never did. It worked great but tbh I could shoot the others better. Probably in 9mm I would feel differently. You may love it. Point is they all work. The damn 5” Springfield operator is a favorite, even though they thought a glued in ejector vs pinned was a good idea. The glue failed 10 years ago, ejector will fall right out with the slide off. It’s a Commander top end - so typical commander reliability. There was one in the EE recently for a deal. |

| I did more research last night and discovered that these do not have a ramped barrel but a typical GI 2 piece barrel/frame ramp. I don’t like the idea of a pointy 9mm bullet smashing into an aluminum ramp thousands of times…I think I’ll either just stick to my GRP commander or find a Valkyrie. Thanks for everyone’s input. |

More input from the .45 side. That colt commander is alloy frame and thus far no damage to the alloy ramp area. Several hundred HST 230s have been bounced off it and a bunch more ball ammo. I think the damage occurs from using a mag with a metal follower, or so I read. Even though I didn’t care for that RO compact, it did its job. Super easy to carry, reliable and plenty accurate, and it had a ramped bull bbl. Typical bull bbl takedown though, fiddly. Springer gives you a thing to hold the springs to allow slide removal. Different take on the paper clip through the guide rod trick. It worked fine. Definitely the best carrying 1911 size, you almost forget it’s there. Attached File |

1911s should be in 45ACP. The CCO is one of my favorites. Attached File ETA: this one slipped by Colt’s QC missing the right side safety lever. It’s a Wilson style that uses the right grip panel to help keep it from falling out, so I’m 99% certain that it left the factory like that. My dealer sold it to me at cost so he wouldn’t have to wait a month for the part to arrive…. I just happened to have a spare in my parts box. Fortunately, no other issues and it runs 100% with ball and 230gr HST Attached File The only things I’ve changed is swapping out the grips and ditching the 2 piece magwell for a traditional MSH |

I have a Colt Wiley Clapp. It is just a cool Colt 1911. I shoot it on rare occasions. I much prefer to shoot my Dan Wesson’s. Dan Wesson vs Colt vs semi-custom. Colts are very good mass produced 1911’s. Betters than everything else in the middle $600-1200 range. They are still pretty loose, tend to have 2.5-4” at 15yd accuracy, the external part fit is ok, but not great. The grip safety has a rattle. The finish is good, but a bit coarse. Trigger is a bit rough, but a pretty good 4.5lb trigger. It is a 100% good 1911. Dan Wesson’s are so much more refined. All the touch points are fit well for a refined look and feel. The trigger is a crisp 3.5lb trigger. Accuracy is sub-1.5”at 15 yards,The finish is incredibly durable. Semi-custom is maybe a bit more refined, accuracy is maybe a bit better, but an honest person will struggle to find those points. When found, it will be hard to price the value of those refinements. So, I do think the Colt CCO is a great gun. I would search for a DW Vigil CCO to buy before I spent my money on a Colt. |

| Unless you reload .45 - 9mm is the way if you actually plan to shoot it with any sort of volume. |

I've got one of the S&W .45 versions, excellent shooter but I really wish I'd gotten the Commander sized gun they had for the same price. I carried it for a bit but just prefer the full sized grip, with a LW Commander being my favorite carry pistol. So no, not really relevant here.
