Picked one up as a parts gun awhile ago. Turns out that the only thing wrong with it was the safety detent plunger was missing. Made a new one and off and running. I figured this one being in not the best visual shape, I would experiment with swapping the front sight with a fiber optic one. I need all the visual help I can get. From what I could gather online, the closest I could come to width, height and dovetail cut is Heine cut 1911 sight. Ordered one from Dawson. Ordered some files from Amazon (made one into a safe file ) and went to work. It went a lot smoother than I thought. Took my time filing, and think its a good fit. They certainly are heavy but they shoot nicely due to that and feel great in the hand with the controls set up really nicely. The trigger feel is a bit different then a 1911 but if you can shoot one of those, the M43 should be an easy carry. Attached File |

Part of that was because there were a LOT of unreliable small 9mm and .45 pistols out there and these actually worked and weren't priced out of the range of the average working cop or CCW carrier. |

Had it for 2yrs, confiscated by cpd in 93 because I had it in the car loaded. Eta; Also had an a75 that was stolen in a break in. |

I bitch about the weight... Yet I can shoot mine well... For me they scream "shoot me off hand please!" My A75 is a lot more snappy than the m43 I changed the title as I like to tinker and have played with this one a bit and figured it was more appropriate. If you have one, you know the mag situation on these. I had hoped the A75 would fit but no. I have 2 Hi- Point C9's and found those fit the frame (can be inserted) I modified the HP mag to mimic the Star, designed a new floor plate for it as well as follower. It works well, but does not always lock back. Well, that's on the beat up m43, the like new one has a slightly longer slide stop catch and works well in that case. If you have other mags that you have tried please chime in.  If anyone wants more info about what I have done lmk and I will post more. I had contemplated changing the thread title to Spanish Autos in order to compile info on these awesome guns.. but I am nobody here lol |

I have two Firestar pistols, M43 - 9mm and M40 - 40S&W. They are both nice to shoot and pretty accurate for their size. I bought the M43 for $200 all because the original owner had feeding issues. There was nothing wrong with the pistol and it was his ammo causing the problems. Now to find a M45 at a decent price to complete the collection. |
