Here's my custom Mil-Spec.  I'm thinking of sending it off to get a premium coating, since it's just park'd right now...

I am switching to smoot wood grips. I really don't hang onto the sides of the pistol anyway and shoot with gloves on. I also have 30 LPI checkering on the front strap and MSH, so I'll have traction.

Because having hammer back is the natural state of existence for a model 1911. It is what you end up with when you load, and when you unload, and the hammer is down only if you have lowered it manually, which is a task that should not be attempted with a loaded pistol, as there is no good reason to, and you may drop the hammer anyway.

Wow, sorry for the run on sentence.

Thanks  I keep trying to get a good picture of the engraving but I guess I'll have to set up some lights to get it right.   You can kind of see it here, had to shrink it to post it though.

Have you considered coating it yourself?  You can GK Gunkote from Brownells, and all you have to do is follow the instructions (diassemble, degrease real well, spray, bake).  Since it's parked, it will act as a good primer.

I don't have access to an oven to cure the coating.  Otherwise, I would.

There's one in the EE.

yeah, but it aint much better price than a BRAND new one. i got mine from lightning arms (link posted above) for about the same shipped (i think the guy in the EE is asking $130 shipped), and i got it in two days from a reputable dealer.

i will give lightning arms props whenever i can, great folks there.

EDIT: the seller has lowered it to $110. if it is indeed new, and he is reputable, it would be worth it for sure. if i had another full size i would think about it...

Nice! Look, it doesn't matter if its a $2000 gun, or the lowest priced. All that matters is that YOU are happy with it.
Too many people think they have to have the TOP of the line, or they can't be satisfied.

+1

I know this is a Springfield thread, but I took a beat up military Colt 1911 (1914 mfg.) that was loose as could be.  I did some basic mods.  No Novaks or Heinie's, no light rails, no barstock hammer, sear, or special trigger, no beavertail, no magwell, no checkering, no match barrel.  I think I had a total of $450 into this gun, and it shot as well as any 1911 I ever picked up.  Did I mention it was ugly?  It got sneers from my friends, who are used to custom 1911s, but it was beautiful to me, since it shot like a dream and never malfunctioned.  The point is, we see these high end guns in magazines and feel we need all the bells and whistles, when we really don't.  Here's that ugly Colt.  Chris157c, your gun is a beauty queen compared to this.
