Test Gun: Delta Elite Barrel length: 5 inches. Ammunition: Speer 10mm 200gr Gold Dot. Test media: 10% Clear Ballistics Gel. Distance: 10 feet. Chronograph: Caldwell Ballistic Precision Chronograph G2. Five shot velocity average: 1028fps Gel Temperature 77 degrees. I finally picked up a box of this ammo when Target Sports had it in stock when I ordered a bunch of 9mm ammo. I got a five-shot average of 1028fps with a high of 1040 and a low 1014fps. Round one in the bare gel had a velocity of 1042fps and penetrated to 16 inches. Recovered weight was 199.3 grains and expansion was .65 inches. Round two also penetrated to 16 inches. Recovered diameter was .66 inches and weight was 199.1 grains. Velocity was 1032fps. In the heavy clothed gel, the first round's velocity was 1014fps and it penetrated to 18.25 inches. Recovered weight was 199.8 grains and its expansion was .65 inches. The final round penetrated to 17.5 inches and had a recovered weight of 199.6 grains and an expansion of .66 inches. The chronograph did not get a velocity reading. http://www.general-cartridge.com/ |

Thank you for posting your results. I don't have a 10mm but would it be correct to assume that these are on milder side of things? The velocities are not a whole lot higher than I would expect from .40 S&W although the bullet is 20 grains heavier. Looks like it would be a good self defense load though against 2 legged threats.

Yes, I think the velocity is a little on the low side.

Looks to be a good anti-personnel load for the 10mm. If I carried a G29, I'd probably get some. Certainly a "light" woods load also.
I'd personally rather have my G23 or G27 loaded with good 40 loads though. Thank you again OP for great data. |

Thanks for the test.

Yes, pretty slow for a 10mm. Kind of anemic like their 64 and 62 grain .223.

More good performance from a "reasonable" 10mm load.
Thanks for the info, 5! |

Yeah this is an interesting test, certainly a good performer for the FBI standards, okay expansion and penetration to 16+ inches. I like the load you linked to, Underwood 200gr XTP, shoots smoothly in my Glock 40. |

Sorry, musta been high when I posted

This Speer load has terminal ballistics on par with .40 S&W- which is true for most 10mm loads. |

Anyone have gel tests of the .40 HST bullets pushed through a 10mm?
