S&W 19-3 that I had stripped of the original nickel finish that was flaking and had some slight pits. I sent it to Machovsky's Metal Life and the returned revolver now has an immaculate bright nickel finish. I found a great set of elk horn stag grips for the old/new girl and she's ready to go.  |

I just received my S&W factory letters. 1. 1st Change M&P .38 Spl 119,xxx. Right on the tail end of that run.   2. 3rd Change M&P .38 Spl 198,xxx. Interesting that this says it was sent on to Birmingham England, but it does not have any UK proofs or an import mark    3. Victory Model M&P .38 Spl. V128,xxx U.S. Navy marked. Sent to the US Navy, Oakland CA on Oct 19, 1942.     |
Another M1905 3rd Change M&P Hand Ejector came my way. This one is a 4-inch .38 Special and in the 231,xxx range, so I estimate it roughly a 1914 to 1915 production example, but I won't know until I get my SWHF factory letter on it. Grips are original and still have the hand-written in pencil serial number on the underside of the grip panel.  You could barely get the cylinder to swing open when I first got it, but after removing the crane arm, I found the hole was filled with congealed oil or cosmoline. It works smoothly now after cleaning. The action is magnificent on this, like all of the other early Smiths I have handled. |

I hadn’t taken any photographs of my three Smith & Wesson revolvers together and thought I’d share. I enjoy shooting these revolvers occasionally. Top is a Model 15-2 shipped in 1966, middle Model 18 manufactured around 1958 and bottom is a Model 36 3 inch manufactured around 1972. I really like the looks of the original grips but I finally broke down and added better grips for shooting my model 18 and model 36. I really didn’t want to get the original grips dinged up.

I can't seem to stop with these old 5-screw K frames. This time it is an early post-war 1946-48 M&P with a 5-inch barrel. This is one of the "S" prefix guns S&W made from the leftover Victory frames they had, as can be seen by the plugged sling swivel hole in the butt of the frame. It also has its original and somewhat unique Magna grips with the dimple on the underside of the right grip panel to clear the domed side plate screw still in use at the time. The grips also have the dished out medallion discs machined out of blued steel on the backside of the grips which were only used for a brief period. I have to say the 5 inch pencil barrel has very nice balance and naturally points well.    |

Hoegee in Los Angeles, CA. Wm. H. Hoegee & Co. was a quite large and famous sporting goods store on the West coast at the time.
