I have both the EPS and EPS Carry. The EPS is on the G17 and EPS Carry on G19. I like the EPS Carry more as it fits flush with the slide width. The EPS has overhang about 1 or 1.5mm on each side which I don’t like. The EPS window is bigger, but I don’t ever feel that the widow size on the EPS Carry was too small or gave me issues. If I had to do it all over again I would have just gotten an EPS Carry for the G17 as well. I guess the side benefit to the EPS with its over hang on my G17 is that it’s easier to grip onto and manipulate the slide. I wouldn’t be taking the EPS off my G17 anytime though as I do like it. As for MOA, both of mine are 2moa. I compared the 2moa vs 6moa at the store and I can’t tell the differences. I have heard, but haven’t had first hand experienced with it, but the 6moa dot tends to be more crisp and is sharper when you dial up and down on the intensity lever. On the 2 MOA the dot is crisper on lower settings and has more starburst as you go higher. I’ll have to get a 6moa dot one of these days to see for myself. I recently got a RXM and will be giving the Gideon Valor a try. It’s basically a clone of the EPS Carry, but $75 cheaper. Plus it has the RMSC pattern which don’t requires you to buy shorter pins to make it fit like the EPS/EPS Carry does. Although I do like the plate (it’s more of a shim vs a plate) offered by Freedom Guerrilla as it fills is the front and rear gaps when using the Holosun EPS. |

Here are my RXMs with the Gorilla filler plates with a Holosun EPS and 407k. The screws go through the plate into the slide, so it really doesn't have the disadvantages of regular plate systems. It has the added advantage of not needing a shorter screw for the right size to avoid going into the extractor channel. Definitely not necessary, but makes the gun look better IMO. Co-witness with the sights is unaffected. Attached File Attached File |

No intentions meant of hijacking the thread.... As a Glock guy, I recently picked up an RXM. But, I'm new to the pistol optics world and this is actually the only pistol I own that is optics ready. That said, although I am considering the Holosun 407 and 507, I'm not sure if I want to spend $200-$300+ on an optic for a $400 gun, when I'm not even sure if or how I will like the optic. Does anyone have a suggestion on a more budget friendly RXM compatible optic that I can upgrade later? Do they even exist? |

I had never owned a pistol with a red dot sight but had shot friend’s pistols with RDS. I tried the RDS and ultimately decided I was better off staying with iron sights on my pistols. I found that frequently shooting RDS pistols actually started slowing me down when I shot iron sights. Since I wasn’t going to carry a RDS equipped pistol for defense I decided to get rid of RDS on pistols. It is a personal choice but I had screws sheer on one optic. I didn’t like the fogging of the lens or debris on the lens from shooting. My eyes are still good enough I can still use iron sight handguns effectively especially at typical ccw encounters. I might be a little quicker getting hits at 50 yards + with a RDS but it would unusual to have a self defense shooting at that distance. I bought a couple Vortex Venom 3 MOA RDS. Vortex has discontinued the Venom and now have three models of the Defender series. AA Optis have good prices on Vortex products and sell refurbished Vortex optics at very good prices. The refurbished optics still come with the same guarantee as other Vortex optics. All my refurbished Vortex optics came new in the box with all normal materials and accessories. If I wasn’t going to buy Vortex I would look at Gideon Optics, Swamp Fox Optics or Primary Arms. A Friend has a Burris Fast Fire that has held up very well on his RIA 1911. Many different pistol size optics on the market, look at the features and size you like. I like the smaller size optics with the smaller dot size (3 MOA or smaller) but I can still use them all effectively. https://aaoptics.com |
