Ruger RXM ordered today!!! HAVE an OPTIC QUESTION (Page 1 of 2)

So I just ordered the Ruger RXM today. I want to put a HOLOSUN EPS optic on it. I have TWO questions: 1) Should I buy the Holosun EPS or the Holosun EPS CARRY for it??? I think both would fit but which one is the better choice? 2) What size Dot should I get?? 2 MOA or 6 MOA? Thanks for your help and input!!!!! T2 |

According to Holoson's website the EPS comes with a RMR to K adaptor plate and the EPS CARRY comes with a RMSc to K adaptor plate. So, both "in theory" should be able to fit on the Ruger RXM. Yes, it is not a direct fit, but the needed plates come with the EPS and EPS CARRY. The video above is a little deceptive since they did not show the included adaptor that came with the optic for that exact reason. I don't have the RXM in hand yet so I can't measure the slide to see which two of those optics would fit the slide better. That is one of my concerns, would the EPS be too big for the RXM slide and would the EPS CARRY have a better profile to slide fit. My next question is the dot size, I wonder if the 2 MOA dot is too small and if the 6 MOA dot is too big. I'm hoping to get some input and opinions of the dot sizes between the 2 MOA vrs 6 MOA. Thanks, T2 |

I would recommend asking in the Optics sub forum. https://www.ar15.com/forums/handguns/Optics/58/ The guys there know a lot about them and could advise you better. It really in subjective as well. Some love the 2moa, people like me would never be able to find it and would prefer the 6moa. |

@Target2 The EPS non carry model will work with the plate that came with the optic. Edited to add: I did not try mounting the optic directly since it’s already mounted on another pistol. Pins in the two front outer holes Attached File They match the holes in the plate Attached File Plate on the slide Attached File |

>>Pins in the two front outer holes<< Be very careful when handling these little guys, as they're tiny and quite easy to lose! Also, be careful not to use a long mounting screw on the right side, lest it interfere with the extractor plunger. |

Are there other considerations that you are referring to? |

I tried a Holosun EPS mounting directly but found the slide studs were too proud and did not sit correctly. A little sanding would correct that but I opted to order a DPP pattern optic and am waiting its arrival. I like a bigger dot than 2 moa but thats me... Size wise the EPS is a better size over the EPS Carry. Low deck height, allows no obstruction of irons. |

The problem has nothing to do with the screws torquing down fine. If it is too long, it catches on the extractor components, causing malfunctions during firing of the gun. |

Are there other considerations that you are referring to? Lots of "men" give a shit about what another grown ass man does with his property. They'll claim that the EPS Carry is only for slimline guns and other micro carry guns. But the EPS Carry and the 407/507K are essentially the same width as the G19/17/etc that it looks made for it. The argument is the window is too small, even though it's the same size as the window on the SCS which is well loved on the MOS fullsize Glocks. Use what you like. I've seen two different G43 owners mount an ACRO P2. Does it look goofy? A little Do I care? Not a damn bit For a website who's members love telling liberals to mind their own business, they seem to forget to do that themselves. |

You used the short screws that came with which optic? I have a Holosun 507C and several EPS Carry models. Even with the plate, if it was needed, I had to trim even the shortest screws that came in the packages for use on the right side. There are even shorter screws which hold the OEM plate on, but they had about 1 thread of protrusion when you sat them in the optic. I'm pretty sure that isn't enough threads to keep the optic on the gun once you start firing it. If you bought a certain optic that happens to have the correct length screws for the right side, or if the optic does not utilize the hole that lines up with the extractor components bore, then that would be a bit more clarifying information instead of just stating that you just used the shorter screws. Again, just because they torque down fine doesn't mean anything. Disassemble your slide when you install the optic. Once the optic is installed, drop the extractor depressor plunger into its bore. If it hangs up at all, you are going to have problems when you are shooting the gun. |

Used a Holosun 507C with the included short screws. I’ve ran about 200 rounds with it on. Using magpul mags & Gen 5 Glock 17 mags. No problems whatsoever. Attached File |

I have the 407k on my RXM. I got the TacRig pins, they were cheap and shipped quickly, so I'm glad I didn't mess with trying to dremel down the factory pins or use a Holosun adapter plate. I went with the K optic because I wanted a clear co-witness on the sights. The regular 507C blocked too much of the sights to be to my liking. They were still usable, but more obscured than I like. They were easily visible through the 507 Comp, but that optic just felt too big for the RXM. Attached File |

Feel free to show us what adapter you have to use for RMR, DPP, RMSc or the K-Cut. That covers most of the mainstream Optics besides the mailboxes like the ACRO, MPS and 509T/509ACSS. The gun comes with pins for RMR, DPP and RMSc. Aftermarket companies offer resized pins for the Holosun K-Cut. If there are aftermarket adapters available, I'd be very curious to see what they are for (besides the usual adapters for ACRO, 509T and others that are not close to mountable with any modular mounting system, RXM, Shadow Systems or Echelon). |

Without modifying the included pins or buying aftermarket ones, I had to use the adapter that came with my EPS Carry. Even you keep using "most" with your pointless argument. The gun is not one size fits all. There are going to be cases where you will have to go out of your way to mount certain optics. |

The gun wasn't designed for the K-Cut Optics. It was designed for the (repetitive it seems to say) RMR, DPP and RMSc. Nothing in the specifications that said it was made to hold the K-Cut Optics from the factory. That would be like somebody getting butt hurt because the MPS wouldn't bolt on. And the adapter is no longer required for the K-Cut optics as there are replacement pins available If you know of a handgun that can mount every single optic on the planet without plates, I would love to see it. |

I had put in an order a couple weeks back and I'm still without my screws. I just chimped it and ground down the Ruger posts. |

| Is there any concerns with holding zero with optics that don't completely fill the mounting area? My EPS has some space in front and behind, and while I knew that was going to happen I didn't really think about it at the time but now I'm a little concerned it might not hold as well as one that fits tighter. |

Technically yeah. A direct cut will always be better. I tried using an acro adapter and things were looser than I cared for. The RMX will largely depend on how tight the pins/lugs fit an optic. Whereas a direct cut can fully support the optic along with the lugs/screws. I ended up replacing my slide with a P80 RMR cut slide.. Killer deal for $80 btw. The Ruger is a jack of all trades, master of none as far as optic fit goes. It's all going to come down to tolerances. Most optics will work just fine. You will mainly run into issues with conversion plates. |

Anyone tried mounting an RMR-HD? I’m half tempted to try that out since I really like the RXM, though I think I might swap out for an OEM gen 3 barrel, I can’t stand using optics on pistols with that stupid witness hole in the top of the hood, let one one that cantilevers the glass closer to the barrel. |
|
I used these MonsterBolts - #6-32 x 3/8" screws to direct mount a dual-illum RMR (no sealing plate required on the dual illumination) and they seem to be the appropriate length. Works great. |

RXM Holosun K-Cut plate is now available. It fills in the entire optic cut, leaving no gap and does not require new or modified placement pins. https://freedomgorilla.com/products/ruger-rxm-to-holosun-407k-507k-eps-carry-scs-carry-adapter-plate?_pos=1&_psq=Rxm&_ss=e&_v=1.0 |
