I recently got a 30ish year old German P226. It has the pinned breech block. I’d like to do a full refresh on the pistol but aside from a new magazine and recoil spring I don’t really know what I need. Any pointers? Links would be great. Thanks.

Good luck. Parts kits aren’t as available as they used to be. If you break the extractor, you’re not likely to find a replacement. Def no breech blocks to be had. I think this is what you want: https://www.topgunsupply.com/sig-p226-9mm-parts-kit.html You may only be able to get a kit direct from SIG. And even that may be a crap shoot. |

I thought original post was refinish oops it said refresh. Sig service package may not be a bad idea. Honestly step one- Does it run fine? If yes step 2- don’t mess with it. If you feel the need to replace springs ( this is way over blown- most guns can go very long without this- even glocks that say replace recoil spring at 5k - will go 4x that without problems) I imagine Wolff has a spring Re is a sig specific specialist called Gray guns that can either supply parts or do the work |

This post got me thinking about the extractors and small parts for the 226 and 220. I called Matrixprecision and left a message over the weekend. Today’s the owner calls and says that he has factory extractors and some parts. I picked up the spring kits, extractor for the 226, firing pin for 220. Numerich had a few parts like 226 firing pin, go spring and a few other parts. There is a guy on eBay selling used extractors but it’s more than the new one from Matrix. Turns out Matrix is fairly local to me. Matrix precision I took the firing pin blocks out of both the 220 and 226. I hear the bend in the extractor for 220 is slightly different than 226. Could just be settling the tension. However, here is a picture of both blocks for comparison. The 220 is top. It might be my sorry picture but the 220 could be a few thounds wider. I wish I had removed them to be sure. Attached File |
| Post a pic of the top of the barrel with the slide back, the amount of wear on the barrel (known as the sig smile) will say a lot as to whether or not you really need to worry about it. Those guns are irrationally long lived, and that doesn't look like its been shot much. |
| The part I would definitely order is the trigger bar spring. In my former life, I had a new West German P-226 and the trigger bar spring was replaced several times over a 3-4 year period. The department armorer said the spring should be replaced around the 6,000-8,000 round mark. Every time I needed a replacement was due to the spring breaking. I used to shoot 3-4 times a week , about 200-300 rounds each time. My gun was taken out of service due to loading block area cracking on the frame. I put between 42,000-48,000 rounds through the gun before it was finally deadlined. |

I put new Meprolight sights on it both #8 which I thought was standard size but maybe not. |
