Ok. Two 686’s. -1 & -3. Two Gp100’s . Both I believe 5”. I shot the blued Ruger the worst. I was shooting steel plates from 20 & 15 yards. Next worst was the snub nose S&W. To be expected. Now I truly love the Ruger Match Champion . Just love this pistol. But surprisingly the 6” S&W i shot equally as well. It was a little heavier. This is all based on plates falling over. Did most of my shooting in single action. Both Smiths had a lighter nice trigger pull. I did two runs in double action . The GP100’s actually had the better trigger pull from start of the pull to the finish. I was surprised. What I figured out was the Ruger’s to me never really changed through out the pull. The smiths did. Both of them. At the very end the pressure changed at the end of the pull. I could watch the trigger move and hear a click like it over came a climb and locked in place. I will admit shooting it at a faster speed in double I hardly feel it. But pulling at a slower speed you definitely can feel it load up. The Ruger’s felt neutral. All pistols are factory stock. It’s been years since I had the side plates off the smiths. But not a lot of rounds have been through them since. 200 maybe. I’m no expert at anything. Just my day at the range. Attached File |

I'm surprised you didn't get better accuracy out of the 5" ruger. Mine is very accurate. I put a set of WC springs in it, amazing difference. I use softer primers (reloads) when shooting it, haven't had any problems. I haven't shot any factory ammo to see if it ignites those. My 686+ and Pythons also have great triggers. Looks like you had a good range day. |

Standard steel plates are 8" in diameter, and the mechanical accuracy of most revolvers is more than sufficient to hit a steel plate at 15 and 20 yards. I used to have a serious falling plate addiction when I was young and used a S&W 65 with 158gr LRN reloads in it and a 4" GP100. Both guns performed similarly, where the GP100 with the front lug had an advantage with the weight distribution, the S&W 65 had the much better D/A pull, making the S&W my favorite. I shot D/A only and tried to beat the timer. I shot in excess of 3,500 rounds a month in summer.

Looks like you had a good range day. The blued ruger has a brass pin front sight . Normally I don't have an issue with it. But the way the sun was hitting the front pin with my sight I kinda would lose it. I’m sure it has nothing to do with my shooting ability. Lol |
