Can y'all school me on the RMSC style footprint for a red dot? There's a myriad of choices out there and I'm a little overwhelmed at all the options, just in Holosun alone, and I as understand Sig, Shield and Vortex also use this pattern in their smaller red dots as well. I have a Tisas double stack 2011 that I'd like to put a dot on. I dunno if I'll end up carrying it someday, primary use right now is just as a fun range toy. |

Shield RMSx has the small RMSc footprint but a huge window, it's nice on a 1911.  Any of the RMS footprint optics also work on the RMSc, FWIW, so you could use any of the standard Shield RMS optics as well. Another option is any of the Gideon "Judge" optics, which offer larger window sizes on the small RMSc footprint. For enclosed options, you have the Shield AMS/AMSc optics, Holosun EPS/EPC Carry, the new EOTech EFLX-CE, and Sig Romeo-X Enclosed |

I'll try to list all the choices about rmsc dots that I think are important. 1. Dot size: eyes pick up bigger dots faster, but smaller dots are easier for precision and long shots, plus a small dot (3moa) can in some cases be turned up to look bigger when needed. This of course works only on dots that have adjustable brightness, which leads me to point number 2. 2. Adjustable brightness vs auto. Auto brightness is probably not as popular as adjustable, and for good reason. I have no doubt there are primo auto brightness dots out there, but there could easily be a situation where the sensor was blocked, or received more light than the area at which you wanted to shoot. 3. Window size: some are larger than others. Smaller is generally more useful in carry guns, but whatever the case is go for the biggest window you can. 4. Battery placement: I find this a non issue, top load, side load, bottom load, don't care. You'll hear about bottom load is a no go because you have to sight it in again. Maybe you will and maybe you won't. I can put a new dot on and eyeball it with little to no need to adjust. Even if you do have to adjust the dot, it's not much of a heavy lift to get that done. I would let battery placement be way down the list of preferences I had for a red dot, but if you can't abide the idea of re zeroing your gun, then bottom load is not for you. Another potential problem with bottom loaders is stripping screws. They're tiny so be careful, plus with the way these dots sip on gas, they can last 3 years or more between changes. As for durability, some are tougher than others. Pick one that meets your usage needs. Even the best regarded dots can fail under typical use, and budget ones might even beat them in certain conditions. Who knows why dots do as they do? Not me. |

I also daily carry a Glock 43 with the same optic - Attached File It used to run a different slide that was cut for the RMRcc - Attached File Both optics have been fine. I do like the enclosed Romeo X better than open optic. I wish the Romeo's buttons required more force to use. |
