Got one as a gift of sorts person passed.Can anyone tell me what to look for as far as upgrades.Pistol shoots good.I only have experienc with Colts,Rugers and Kimbers

Why does it need "upgrades"? Is it GI style?

I say shoot it, I’d be surprised if anything fails. I have been around numerous RIA 1911’s and they all run good and are accurate. I suggest you shoot the RIA and see how it works for you then decide if you need a different grip safety or other parts.
