My fairly new Prodigy DS 5" probably got a bit over 1k rounds through from May 2025 and its ejector gave up today. Apparently this is rather common for Springfield (a MIM part perhaps?). I was having issues with the gun not ejecting 100% like before, decided to field strip for a quick clean but found the culprit as soon as the slide came off - The ejector's front post sheared off clean. Attached File Luckily I was able to just drift out the pin, used a small magnet to 'suck' out the broken post! The pic below shown the remnant of that front post with the magnet used. Attached File So a bit more research shown that the issue was caused by repeated slamming reload from lockback. If the ejector has not been 'contoured' to clear the top round. This pic shown clearly the spot where the ejector should have been relieved (this is my new MAC 9 DS just picked up as a backup) - Attached File Brazo addressed this exact issue with their pro performance tuned ejector, the relieved spot is pretty clear - Attached File |

Good info if somebody is not tracking. Also to note: Atlas and MBX offer mags without a last round hold open is this is fairly well known in the compition world of people gorilla slamming mags into 1911/2011 ejectors. As mentioned, there are better forged, contoured options that mitigate this today. Ill eventyally swap mine out, I have 8000 rounds down range with no issues. |

A bit update is warranted after more research about this ejector beating issue. Yes, depending on the magazine, the top round may or may not hit the ejector. Since I do have a new MAC 9 DS that just came in, I decided to check all 10 Prodigy/MAC 17 rds magazines. I will need to do the same once a new ejector for the Prodigy arrives. Checkmate and Mec Gar magazines sits just a hair lower so the top round would not touch the ejector (there is daylight between the brass and the ejector). The Prodigy 17 rds mag (by Duramag) has a hair of clearance, can't see it without looking into a brighlight. 20 rds magazines locked in with the top round hitting the ejector, even with the MAC ejector already have a slight bevel/contour at the right side corner to mitigate the issue. @bravo5two Maybe i missed it, but what ejector did you order? The Brazo? Also, looks like you are running the EGW guiderod setup. What springs are you running (recoil and main). Just recently aquired a 5" DS, knowing full well I would need to tune it like my 4.25 Prodigy and other 5" 2011's, but so far this thing likes no spring I have on hand for it. Thought it might like the 12# recoil I have on my other 5" pistols, nope.... I think the main is the bigger issue, but I didnt think to record what main I was running in my other guns. |
