Additionally, other than the problems inherent to TFO sights, is there anything I need to look at when deciding between a dual illuminated rmr or a type 2? I'm largely leaning toward the dual illuminated simply because winter weather here will make cold soaked battery powered optics inoperable in a hurry. Would have to store in the truck while I'm working, etc. Not purchasing or milling anytime soon, but wanting to start getting ducks in a row for it. Interesting question about the cold. I would think a 2032 coin cell - which is lithium - would hold up ok. However, the cold you experience in Ak is a legitimate issue. Perhaps some of our other Red dot brethren who live in frigid climate can weigh in. |

Do NOT go with the dual illum version unless you are in a place that has ample illumination 24/7 Correction: Do NOT go with the Dual illuminated version... PERIOD. In anything other then (and possibly including) bright sunlight, the reticle will be dim, washed out, and all but unusable. And I'd look into the Agency Arms AOS system if there is a significant chance you'll pick an optic other then a RMR, now... or in the near future. It gives you more options. |

Meh, mines pretty good in all light you don't need a wml. It's on my wife's g19 so it's really just a range gun. Would make a good hunting optic too. |

My personal RMR is an RM06, but I didn't ever have any problems with illumintation on the dual illuminated RMR atop the SDO on the M27 I was issued. YMMV I suppose. |

I'm not planning on swapping optics, but new and better stuff does come out so future proofing is the thought. As for batteries, cold soaking they'd be pretty much dead after an hour or two, let alone a full day at work. Not sure what repeated heat/cold cycles would do to a battery though, but probably nothing good. Worst case, I'll just figure out a way to store it at work. Carrying on the clock is 100% out of the question unfortunately. |

I have mine on a 17 that lives, um, not in a holster. I took it to the range last week after living out there for a year. Saw the reticle no problem. Wanted to make it just a touch brighter and it wouldn't go. because the battery was 100% dead. I couldn't make it brighter but the solar was enough to work in the medium light of an indoor range. Nice knowing it will still work if I ignore it for more than a year at full brightness and work when needed. I changed the battery

I just picked up a 509T to put on my G34.4 but now I need a way to mount it. I've thought about getting it cut, but I really kinda want to keep the slide and swap over the internals. Since it should come with an RMR adapter plate What RMR slides are compatible with that plate? I'm not a huge fan of limiting myself to a single mounting setup and it seems a lot of RMR slides are cut for the zev mount. My other RDS guns are Glocks with ATOM mounts and an M17. |

So far, I’ve been very impressed with this Burris FastFire 3. I picked it up for my MkII build at Academy for $180. It’s not built for hardcore use but it’s very clear, the dot is bright and the auto adjust feature works very well. It’s also got a transferable lifetime warranty. I think from now on, anything that doesn’t need an RMR is getting one of these. Attached File Attached File |

Burris replaced it when when he told them it was his fault. clear window, housing disappears, auto adjust works really well, holds zero. just got to remember to turn it off, keep an extra battery in your bag, and don't drop it! |

It took a bit for me to fully switch to the dot but I’ve been carrying one for work exclusively for almost a year 30 years of shooting, competition, training schools and weekly practice had my iron sight skills pretty sharp 3-4 years back I got a G34 cut for a RMR type 1 at Jagerwerks It really is cheating Just set up this G34.5 MOS with 509T on a CHPWS plate This is the end of a couple dozen Defoor hat quals. Added a new one to my collection, was happy to find the 365x ready for optic, I didn’t know they made that combo from the factory and was expecting to have to mix it up on my own Attached File |

I don't need the shake-awake (or the solar panels). The Holosun is a nice, high-value MRDS. Just offer one model without the gimmicks. Call it the SOCOM model or something. How about the 6 MOA model 407? |

Another benefit to the dot... I have recently been shooting my previous carry gun for the first time in a few months. It's a Glock 19.3 with TruGlo Tritium Pro sights. Not only is my presentation better and I'm picking up the front sight quicker than ever, I can actually use the front sight more like a dot than ever before. Even before switching to a dot for carry, I haven't used a hard front sight focus in many years. However, after several thousand rounds of live fire and countless dry fires with the dot, I can even more effectively keep a target focus with the irons. I was able to quickly get A zone hits, target focused at 7, 10 and 15 yards using the bright front sight of the TruGlos the same way I use the dot. It's not as precise as the dot, but it works very well for me. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to try it out at 25 yards as well. Attached File |

When I realized last night I had the wrong screws for the RMR I completely forgot I had a holosun laying around waiting for me to finish my P80. So the M&P will still get the Trijicon, but this will tide me over till the sealing plate and screws get here. And I can start some dry fire ![]() Attached File |

The 45 model is enticing too. I'm looking at the newest 9mm M&P Shield Plus model with 4" barrel & optic cut performance center package. I hate to be limited in choices here, and there's a ported version and non port, and it's difficult choosing either. |

Hoping someone knows of some obscure over-engineered solution that will withstand fast roping, karate-chopping, butt-stroking and general mayhem only a member of ARFCOM would understand.

There’s no doubt I’m a red dot guy. I’ve been shooting them on handguns since 2013….been in this thread since 2019. I certainly see the benefit of red dots. I’ve always been an RMR with either a milled slide, or the FCD plate, when they came out, type guy. I’m posting this here, because maybe someone in here has had the same problem. A few months ago I got a G48, with the thought of maybe it replacing my tried and true G19. I picked up a Holosun for it. My first and only Holosun. For the life of me I can’t get it to remain secure to the mount! Initially I used a CHWPS plate and mounted it. I found after getting a few rounds down range the sight would slightly move counterclockwise. I said screw it, and direct mounted it to the slide after removing the rear studs and lowering the front studs. To top it off the M4x0.7 screws started getting boogered up. So I went on a pretty unsuccessful search for the the proper screws ( McMaster Carr, Fastenal, etc….no luck) I settled on some Phillips head screws of the proper pitch….it looks like ass…. Same problem after direct mounting. The sight would rotate slightly counterclockwise. Yes, I used either blue Loctite or Vibratite every time. It seems the sight would begin to rotate counterclockwise after a hundred rounds or so. I have misses on a 15 yard half IPSC. Completely unsatisfactory. ( Earlier in this thread I posted a video of consistent sub 3 second hits in a 90 yard IPSC. ) I’m about ready to put the cover plate back on G48MOS and have my regular G48’s slide milled. Has anyone else had this problem? The offender in question: Attached File |
