Been looking at a threaded RXM for a while now, finally got one last week. Had a day off, so just got back from the range with it. Pretty bog standard clone of a Gen3 G19 that feels much better in the hand to me than an actual G19. I will say, the machine work and small parts quality seems better than the last Glock I bought, a Gen3 G19 not long after Glock started using MIM innards. On the Glock, the extractor was REALLY tight in the slot in the slide and the metal work wasn’t great, had a few pits in the metal in the relief cuts for the firing pin safety. A little VERY gentle stoning of the top and bottom of the extractor took care of the fit in the slide. The connector had some metal flash where they are stamped out. Again, a little gentle stoning removed it. On the Ruger, ALL the innards are very well finished and smooth. The extractor did not look like MIM, although for the price, I’d bet it is. VERY nicely finished and no MIM mold marks at all. The connector, what I could see of it (I didn’t strip the FCU, so I couldn’t see much at all if the connector), almost looked machined. No ridges on the edges that you typically see on stamped parts. Very nicely done. At the range, I put about 250 rds through it, mostly my old 124gr reloads, along with 50 Fed American Eagle 124gr, and 10 older Speer Gold Dot 124gr+P (all of my rather small defensive ammo stash that I was willing to expend right now). Gun performed really well, better than the above G19 did on its first range trip (had the dreaded “brass to face” with it). Aside from 2 of my reloads that the primer didn’t pop (they didn’t pop on the second try, either, so not a gun issue), it was flawless. Ammo in the mag, bullets and brass out. Shot really well with the Gold Dots, pretty well with the factory ammo, a little worse with my reloads, which again isn’t a gun issue, it’s an ammo issue. 3 issues, none huge. They really aren’t issues, just observations. Compared to the triggers on my full sized M&P9 that I carry at my PD job and the Shield Plus I carry off duty, the RXM trigger was creepy. More movement after the wall and before the firing pin releases than I remember from my Glocks. Again, not really a gun issue, more like a general Glock trigger issue. I have shot Glocks with the same, or more, creep in them. Just not as good as my S&Ws and something to get used to, unless I decide to play with the connector, trigger and springs. Maybe, we’ll see. Issue 2 was the included Magpul mags. They worked fine, but they feel cheap compared to factory Glock mags. I know that the gun was a collaboration between Ruger and Magpul, and I knew that the gun came with Magpul mags. I also know that Magpul mags are generally regarded as range use only, not for “social” occasions. This is the first time I have messed with them, and I’m not real impressed. Not a huge issue, I have more than enough factory Glock mags. Issue 3 is that the RXM does not have a magazine overtravel stop built into the frame like Glock does. The FCU sits in the frame where the frame mounted stop is, so the engineering would have been a little more difficult, but IMO, in a gun that competes with Glock, and with everyone loving “fun sticks”, seems like it should have been included. Again, far from a deal breaker, but seems a little strange to not have it. I checked on my RXM, and if you insert a G17 or longer magazine, it can over travel and hit the extractor, which is why it is built into Glocks. Overall, given that I have had horrible luck with Glock’s customer service annd corporate attitude over the years, the RXM seems like a Glock for people that don’t like Glock. Seems like a great little gun and is replacing the above G19 as my nightstand gun. The G19 was my last Glock that needed replacing, so I am happy. Now, I’m just waiting for someone to come out with a decent PDW chassis for it. |

Noticed the dimple, but it still doesn’t prevent over travel, at least not in mine. Longer mags will still insert far enough to hit the ejector. I didn’t hulk it when I tried, so I don’t know if it would be enough to damage the ejector, but it will definitely hit the ejector. I’ll have to play further when I clean it up. | Timney makes a RXM specific trigger. Put one in my gun and it was well worth the cost. Much improved trigger. Not as good as the Apex trigger in my M&P, but still better than the stock RXM trigger. |
