Looking at a P220 Elite in 10mm . What’s the good and the bad on these ? Strong enough to handle stout 10mm ammo ? Thanks in advance . |

I have an “Emperor Scorpion” (which just means a burnt bronze PVD coating) and strong enough?!? It’s heavy enough to use as a boat anchor. |

For 99% of it, I'd rate the gun as 'excellent.' It's probably the best current all-steel 10mm you can buy. That's for reliability, accuracy, and single-stack ergonomics.  (Sig got the 10mm P220s right thanks in large part to Bruce Gray's (GrayGun's) early conversions of his customers' stainless steel .45acp P220 to 10mm. Sig and its engineers studied his work and figured it would be a seller as a standard production model given the resurging popularity of the 10mm cartridge at that time, circa 2013-14). The recoil spring is stiff and, loaded 8+1 with 200grn ammo, it weighs almost 52oz. Some would downgrade the gun on that point, but the weight helps dampen felt-recoil. My gun easily handles the hottest factory ammo and the Norma-level handloads I feed it. The only 'bad,' if there is one, is the stingy 8-rd mag capacity. Sig could've easily engineered a semi-double stack P227-pattern steel frame to accommodate similar 227-type 10mm mags. Whereas mag capacity of the 227 in .45acp was 10-rds, a 10mm model would've held at least 12-rds. Yeah, that geometry no doubt would’ve also increased overall weight, but many would argue the higher mag capacity (12+1) would justified it. |
