So, I have decided I’d like to put an optic on my Ruger 22/45 suppressor host. I’m turning 67 this month and I have worn corrective lens since I was a kid. I recently bought a Vortex Defender CCW to mount on it and the dot was the absolute worst blob I’ve ever experienced in a dot optic. I have Holosun circle dot sights (green) on a couple of AR’s and one on my Kuna. On the Holosuns the dot is crisp and pretty well defined. So, I’m stuck as to what optic if any I’m going to be able to use RMSc / K footprint. Is the Vortex just a POS ? I’d like to hear from anyone that also suffers from astigmatism and has found an optic that works for them. TIA |

Just saw you said the RMSc / K footprint. Get the SE. enclosed and crisp! It's going to get some hate. But the Osights I have have the clearest dot and circle dot compared to my Holosun/Vortex Optics. For a 22LR it will do the job well. I wonder what witch craft they did for that? I learned to just deal with the distortion. Circle dots are less distracting for some reason. |

I know it will get hate, but of all the dots I have (rifle and Pistol), Aimpoint, Eotech, Trijicon, Sig, Vortex, PA, and Holosun, the Osight is the best for non bloom. Holosun is the next best. I was very hesitant at first for the Osight, but got the first one and was shocked how clear it was. Zeroed it on my Prodigy, marked the screws and dials (to see if they move) and went blasting away. I have since bought 2 more for other 2011's. |

Looking at the dot is counterproductive to the strength of the dot sight system. If you use target focus the appearance of the dot is irrelevant. If you notice the shape it's actually a good clue that you've lost target focus. Practice occluded more and shoot the streak. |

A person that has a bad enough astigmatism, the bloom will cover your target (the distorted edges get bigger when looking at the target). When a dot doesn’t distort / bloom, then looking through it to see the target is easier because the dot remains more crisp and ultimately smaller than one that blooms. Those w/o or with a minor astigmatism, may not fully understand that. |

I'm going to get dog piled but Osight SE in red is the clearest reticle I've seen on a pistol dot. I own several Holosuns and I have really bad astigmatisms. I tried several green Holosuns last year and could not find one that was clear. I have not purchased the Green Osight. So not sure how clear they are. But I assume they are good compared to the red models. |

Those w/o or with a minor astigmatism, may not fully understand that. Since the dot places the target and sight in the same focal plane, you can focus on the target with both eyes open and past the dot. The dot is blurred out much like the target is when shooting irons with front sight focus. The hard focus on the target has numerous tactical advantages like increasing the accuracy of placement(aim at the third button on his shirt), raw speed, awareness of what the suspect is doing with his hands and his reaction to being challenged or shot all without losing your sight reference. Plus that reference gives you much more information in rapid fire tracking without requiring you to look at it, all without any loss in SA. This takes a shift in mindset(as well as focus) and extensive dryfire with the front of the scope occluded is a big help in learning. Target Focused shooting with irons started becoming a thing in USPSA well over a decade ago as fiber optic sights took over. It became evident that there was much more information coming from the brightly lit front sight than any other type, and for all but the most difficult shots it was demonstrably superior. The RDS just turned that up to 11 and unlocked Target Focus for accountable deadly force in a way that neither "Point shooting" or "flash sight picture" could equal. Ben the Steggler and Hwansik Kim(Vision fuckus) have several videos explaining it and demonstrating the advantages. * Where each shot requires Constitutional justification(at a minimum) for the use of deadly force(is he still a threat?), and you have to train as though you have no backstop beyond the suspect's body. Acting otherwise is irresponsible and asking for prosecution. |

The Osight still blooms for my eye but not as bad. About the best I have came across so far. The se is amazing so far |
