I have always used irons on handguns. Looking to experiment with rmsc optics. I don’t want to spend a bunch because I may hate it. Just figured i’d ask for suggestions. Thanks y’all

Thank you for that. I’ll definitely look into them. The price is right as well.

Holosun 407k, may not be the absolute cheapest but can be found for under $200 and is a proven item.

I’ve been looking at that footprint lately as well.

Vortex defender ccw, now in fde!

Gideon Judge XL. Big ol glass in a tiny footprint.

Holosun 407k

Holosun eps carry for enclosed emitter options.

Mechanik makes one for $125 that looks interesting.

Anyways you probably can’t go wrong with any of them

Looks like swamp fox and primary arms make one as well.

Which slide will it be mounting on? The slide width makes a difference in choosing an optic that'll NOT protrude over the sides. Small frame Glocks and 1911's are just right for the smaller optics, around 1" wide.

Then there's the issue of the optic being taller than you may like, due to adapter (Glock MOS for example) plates. Other than being higher over the bore axis, the reason you may not like it, is because the iron sights may become too low to be visible through the optic. Most people like having irons visible. Blacked out front sight posts are ideal for pistol optics IMO (who needs two glowing dots to confuse the sight picture - an rds dot and a tritium front post dot is grotesque lol).

Holosun 407k is the lowest price, bang for the buck option in my IME. If you gotta have a circle-dot then 507k. Don't be confused with these models and their "X2" at the end of their model number. It indicates the second "X2" generation. Their first generation had the up/down buttons similar to Trijicon's. Trijicon sued and Holosun had to change their up/down buttons. Here's vid focused on 507k but also touches on new users and other RDSs 507k +

Just be aware your quest for the lowest cost budget option could produce lowest/budget performance too. That could skew your opinions to the point you might hate the experience.

That swampfox looks a lot like my Riton 99$ dot.  3 years and still going strong.
Check the outfit called Bereli, they clearance Riton all the time.

I saw the primary and it looks pretty good.

I was kinda hoping someone would have experience with the Riton. I found those online and they’re really inexpensive.

Oh, you will. If you stick it out you'll likely love it. I've gone back and forth on having a dot on my XL. I'm back to irons now and will likely never put a dot on it as long as I carry it for protection. If it gets shuffled to range, I'll put a dot back on it.

I'm seriously considering one of these to put on my Ruger RXM.

Olight SE Enclosed Micro Dot.

Putting that its an Oproduct aside, just be aware that it does not have a button lockout feature like most pistol dots do.

Well, Being a rookie with handgun optics I'll just say I've had pretty good luck with Oproducts and have no idea what a button lockout is.

A button lockout is exactly as it sounds, kinda like olight flashlights that have button lockouts. Its so that when your sight is on, you cant press any buttons and turn it off or change the brightness levels by accident. This is useful when at a match and you need to rack the slide and grab part of the sight and hit a button unintentionally. The biggest concern is if its in a concealed holster and it gets unknowingly shut off and you dont find out till you need it.

Oproducts are fine if you know that they are a fidget toy company that makes collectable flashlights.

The SE is their first serious move to go after the budget red dot market. The previous models that have rechargeable hoods werent it.

The Osight S is my current favorite red dot from any company. I bought 2 more yesterday at under 300 shipped for both; one is going on my new CZ P10 C Ported and the other is replacing the Holosun SCS MP2 on my S&W Compact Carry Comp because it won't hold zero.  I've already got 3 S models and an SE and they have been great.

I have a Vortex Defender CCW (3 moa/red) on my Glock 48 and have been happy with it.  I've only had it a for 3-4 months now and have only shot a few hundred rounds with it installed though.

I have the Defender CompDot (XL) on my Glock 34 with at least a thousand rounds through it and it's been perfect.  So that is what led to my giving the CCW model a chance.

I’m deciding between the Defender ST and Defender CCW, for my RXM pistol.

Prefer a green dot

I'd rather change out a coin cell battery than deal with a rechargeable hood that doesnt always work with some rear sights. The rechargeable battery life isnt too great on those. I guess you can cash in on their great warranty when the sight or hood battery gives up and wont hold a charge anymore. Thats fine for the Baton variants of their handhelds. But to have that on a dot that isnt mounted on a range toy, no thank you

The hood on the original Osight was an issue, and I told them that from the start, which ended up in them redesigning it to no longer interfere with rear sights on the X model.  The S has no such issues, and the cover is reversible just in case you have some weird sight scenario that they didn't foresee.

If you don't like the rechargeable S model, they make what is effectively the same sight that uses a replaceable cell in the SE.

Throwing out our MRSc for consideration. It's a great, inexpensive reflex sight for shooters transitioning from irons to a reflex, without breaking the bank! The MRSc Gen II is a 3 MOA dot available in both RED and GREEN and features our patented Autolive® functionality!

I’m in the same boat as you. I think I may go with the Osight SE. YouTube has some great reviews showing durability and some forums like Reddit are giving it good reviews as well. Price ranges from $129-$199. Osight is also on Amazon free shipping and returns.

My other options is the Holosun EPS. The price is much higher but it’s also a known commodity.
