It's the fact that a bunch of them eventually either work themselves loose or break. The 1911 is a difficult platform to shoehorn the extra parts onto and make them as reliable as a single sided safety. |

Sounds nice, but this well written, glowing review was in effect paid for by the Ruger marketing department––just like a gun magazine review. Which is fine, but you have to take that into account. It has worked on me––I'm excited to see/handle/shoot this 1911, and I hope Ruger hits a home run with the SR1911.
We'll see if Ruger has been able to create an affordable (purported $599 street price), smartly packaged 1911 that is actually reliable. I'll let the early adopters find out. |

I think he might be alluding to the fact that they supplied you with the ammo and mags, and possibly the weapon? Therefore it was paid for by them. And they're probably not going to let Gunsite test some lemons. But I'm not going to assume that you didn't buy it. But, did you buy it? Or did they supply the pistol too? Either way, I think it's pretty cool that it's all American made.
I'm sort of mulling over the idea of a Colt though. For some crazy reason. I like that anniversery issue that is like a plain ole 1911. But it is interesting to see what Ruger has put together. It was an impressive write up! |

I'm a colt snob, but the remington's raised my brow... Looks like this will blow the springer loaded model and Remingtons out of the water. They didn't over do the markings to bad either.
I really hope if they build a midsize, it's a 4 1/4 inch true commander instead of a 4 inch. And a light weight model would be nice too. |

"a positive review" - I tried to stay neutral and just state what was there, didn't state it was better or worse than other 1911's. as for the price, I haven't decided whether or not I'm gonna keep it, will make that decision after I finish T&E. |

100rd Break-in
I don't have all the ammo needed for a full range report and the wind was at 25+ mph today, but I was dying to get out and put some rounds downrange so I opted for a 100-rd break in session. Decided to grab magazines from a couple of different manufacturers in addition to the two provided by Ruger. (Left to right: Ruger 8-round, Ruger 7-round, Chip McCormick 8-round, Chip McCormick 8-round Power Mag, Colt 8-round.) 
Ammo used was Winchester White Box 230gr FMJ 100-round value pack. 
Since I was using cheap ball ammo and was affected by excessive wind I was less concerned with accuracy this time. The test was primarily to check function and see if the sights were on. Distance was 7 yards with 5 rounds per target, offhand. 
Silhouette target at 7 yards, with 5 rounds in the head and 45 at center mass, offhand. 
(My cohort brought his 1937 S&W Brazilian contract model in .45ACP. I put five rounds into the smaller silhouette at top left.) My cohort and two others at the range also put 30 rounds through the SR1911. During the 100-rd test with multiple magazines the pistol functioned flawlessly without a single malfunction. The sights out of the box were satisfactory and required no adjustment. So far I am pleased with the reliability of the SR1911. Though this test was limited to ball ammo, another more in-depth range session is planned (including velocity, accuracy, and function with hollowpoints) hopefully next week. |
