What mags are y’all running? I got a bunch of surplus 1911 mags but looking to buy some more “modern” mags for carry. I’m running the tank commander in 45acp. Been considering CMC and the Wilson combats but not sure if it’s just hype. |

Maybe, maybe not. I asked about what 9mm 1911 mags to get in another thread and made a comment about the .45 mags I've had the most issues with were Wilsons- several people chimed in about having problems with their Wilsons as well. You'll see the same thing on the 1911 forums. When they work, they're great mags, but they seem to need to be kept cleaner for starters but my personal experience is that they just haven't been as reliable as some other brands across a variety of guns and that seems to be mirrored by others (which sucks because they're expensive compared to some other brands). You're going to have to experiment some and find what works best in your gun. I started using Chip McCormick Shooting Stars when I shot competition and have generally stuck with them and the Power Mag series in my .45s. I've got a variety of magazines including some Kimbers I was given (they work great believe it or not), CheckMates, old GI, Springfield, Metalform, MecGar, etc. I'd avoid the usual problem children like ProMag, USA, etc. I still haven't gotten around to buying more 9mm mags and the gun is in the safe. I need to get on that.

I have a bunch of mags that work fine, mecgar, act mag, metal form. If I see mags from a reputable manufacturer on sale I'll buy them. That said, when I NEED a mag and what I carry in my primary carry gun is chip McCormick 10rnd power mag. If you like the traditional GI style magazine, the absolute best and smoothest 7 round mag I ever had is Springfield OEM. They come on sale for like $12 all the time. I know they're made by somebody else but I forget who. I started buying those because I realized that the mags that came with my Springfield's was so smooth. I have collected like a full drawer full of those over the years and I used them in my carry gun for about 20 years. Where did you get "surplus" mags? I ask because pretty much all "surplus" 1911 mags are fakes and absolute garbage. |

Some folks here pooh pooed them, checked on a 1911 forum, manufacturer code was correct. |

SARCO even sells 1911 mags w/ their own cage code. My limited experience is that it's difficult to get 230 grn FMJ to not feed. Hollowpoints are an entirely different story. |
